Yeah.. Awesome clothing. Just reading the comments it seems they're a home based company. Sweatshirts are $85. I guess we order them through their FB page. Love gear like that.

All the graphics seem to have been designed inhouse. So you would expect it to the be the latter. If the NRL is not getting their cut, i dont think this 'home-based' business will last long.

If it is pirated then its a huge waste of $85 IMO. Everytime you buy a licensed product part of the proceeds go to the NRL (the best competition in the entire universe), the team (my beloved Warriors) and the makers of the product (who are always sponsors of the game or team and who without their continued support we wouldn't have a comp or team).

I personally abhor pirated Warriors gear and think wearing it is tantamount to treason! If you want to be a real supporter then buy real gear and support your team both physically and financially...

While I agree, I guess there is some pirated gear which is different in style / type to the official merch. IE, a beanie as opposed to a cap, sweatshirt as opposed to a hoodie... etc. I know if I found a Warriors basketball singlet I would be all kinds of happy and willing to shell out whatever it cost me.
So i can understand the appeal of something a bit different.

BUT!!! Generally pirated/bootleg merch is of inferior quality. Looking at those sweatshirts above, they scream $30 to me... not $85!

I was keen on the Mr Vintage "Warriors - come out to play" t-shirt, but most non-official merchandise is not worth good money. I may consider something like what was shown above for $20, but paying $85 for a sweatshirt, I would expect it to be official and have the NRL tags and club logos.

I do agree with you, but with the horrid "True Warrior" marketing campaign this year, I am a little against throwing lots of money at the club. Us long-term loyal fans clearly know more than the club do right now about what it takes to be a True Warrior. Clearly most members feel a little like that, and that's why they are currently offering the "members only" True warriors t-shirt free with any Wellington jersey purchase.

Treason, nononono, ransom, that's what they hold us too when wanting to buy official Warriors gear. Why is it that kids clothing is so expensive considering a growing kid will be lucky to fit the same clothes the following year. Why is it that you can go to best for less in Oz and pick licensed NRL singlets for $7.00 there and yet your struggling to keep them under $25 here(in NZ), if your beloved NRL really cared it would do something about these ridiculous prices.

$25 pfffftt I spend at least 4 times that amount a week on piss! That's chump change.

Got an email from my contact in the Warriors. This gear is almost certainly pirated and he's going to investigate. Sorry to those who support the pirates...

not sure how it can be pirated? does the club own the rights to 'keep the faith'? I dont see anything in those sweatshirts that is breaching any copyrights?
You should get your eyes tested! Your probably legally blind...

Tons of jerseys, tell me about it!

The difference is that official gear channels money back to the comp and team thereby insuring the continuation of the sport and team we are on this forum discussing.

Unofficial gear merely steals the image of a club to line their own pockets.

I support small business. I have one myself but I'd be damned if someone came along and used my good name to secure them jobs. I've worked long and hard to establish my rep. So has the Warriors and the NRL...

I would imagine they do own the rights to "New Zealand Warriors".
I'm no expert but I would imagine they would have some serious difficulty defending themselves in court.

The second is ok but the first pic that says

NEW ZEALAND
WARRIORS
ESTABLISHED 1995

is probably breaching copyright...

Depends who you talk to. There was a lot of talk that the team name is actually the "Vodafone Warriors". Though the club is actually registered with the NRL under New Zealand Warriors (I believe). There have been several people argue these points, and I can't remember exactly what the outcome was. They may have been a little sneaky and the fact "New Zealand" and "Warriors" are distinctively different may give them a loophole. There is no way they could stop anyone using "New Zealand" on a shirt.

Maybe the Warriors could use the legal argument of Dennis Denuto from The Castle - "It's the vibe of the thing, your Honour".

The official name of the club at the Companies Office is the New Zealand Warriors - at least was last time I checked. Will check again.

The Vodafone bit is just a naming rights sponsorship.
