Yeah I think that was it. Been many years since I've been. Last time I went someone got shot at in the carpark...
JK was John Keighley. He was a sheep farmer from up north. Quite wealthy. I think the golf shop was his retirement gig but if he was still around he must be over 90, which if I recall his obesity level is unlikely.

True story about JK.

He made a lot of money running shearing gangs as well as his sheep farm, in the days when farmers made money from sheep...way back last century.

He was a stalwart of the local rugby club (no league near Wellsford)

One of his best players was due to get married the day of a big game, but it was an away game. They organised the wedding before the draw.

So the dude had no way of getting from the showers to his wedding on time.

Now for you city slickers, an away game from Wellsford could have been anywhere from Pouto to Mangawhai. Mangawhai was not a long drive, maybe 30 minutes, but Pouto the home of the famous Southern Club was way further.

No problem, JK organised a helicopter to collect him straight from the final whistle to home, got him dressed up and into church.

He was a legend up there was JK.

Have had a handicap for 20yrs. Never played off less than 11 and that was before kids. Drifted out as far as 19.3 18mths ago with only playing 3-4 comp games a year.

Went to buy a driver here in BNE and the sales guy gave me a couple of tips and 12mths on and it’s down to 12.7 today - so yeah have the bug again and going to try and beat my all time best HC of 11 - be a nice way to celebrate turning 50 this year.

And can’t finish with out sharing the highlight of Monday’s round. Hole #12 at Royal Qld is a 275m par 4, drove the green and just missed the eagle putt! Was one of those rare moments that lock you into the next couple of games lol!

Play well Whanau ⛳️

Only had one lesson.

Cousin was a golf pro in Aus. Now retired. He showed me how to drive the ball. Well to me it was a long way the one time I hit it and reached the 200 meter range...every other hit went bend it like Beckham.

Being in my thirties I wish I had been able to afford the sport in childhood cause even though that is not a real decent hit, the feeling was massive.

I am not someone who just takes to new sports. So I did buzz out prolly more than I should have with one straight...for mine big hit.

I would say that even if like me you never give it a proper go, you should have a session driving to understand what you are seeing on telly when the Masters is on.

Golf is my second passion to rugby league. I started playing when I was 13.

Since covid I don't watch the PGA as much as I used to because the crowd atmosphere went.

Just gotta say, watching the women is very enjoyable.

They cannot hit it as far as the men, but they are just as accurate and with as much course management as the men, if not more.

Lydia Ko is a genuine talent, highly under rated here I am sad to say.

She sacrificed millions to play for New Zealand.

The offers for her from Korea were staggering.

Watching the 4th episode of Full Swing on Netflix. Pretty intense how competitive and ruthless top flight golf is. Great watch so far...

Looking at buying my first set of clubs (second hand) soon. Any recommendations for a beginner, just under six foot with a slower than average swing rate. Looking at something like a driver, rescue wood, hybrid, 4 or 5 - 9 irons, P and S, and putter.

I've been given a secondhand trundler. Do they take a stand bag or is it a normal bag that fits into a trundler?

Cheers.

Trundlers are not designed for stand bags but will fit. my advice is to see a Pro over the clubs. It should be quite cheap for him to point you in the right direction.

Mate. Go see a professional. It is the best money you can spend. Even Tiger Woods has a coach.

Nothing like a woman scorned apparently. Mind you it’s America where everybody sues someone else
It is a bit more than that. Tiger was raised by an obsessive father and an Asian Tiger mother. If you read any of the good articles about his upbringing it was weird. Apparently he is a good father but his ability to relate to women is seriously askew.
