Only forum I could find for this post from the SMH:

We need to talk about Greg Norman
I have vivid memories of Greg Norman in his heyday. I was a few years out of school and he was this mesmerising, hulking blond presence on the international stage. We Aussies were proud of our Great White Shark: he stood for athleticism, charisma, talent, risk-taking – all the things a nation of sports nuts liked to be associated with.
Fast-forward nearly four decades, and my impressions of the former pro golfer have changed. I now associate him with Donald Trump and Saudi Arabia, with a messy short marriage to a one-time golden girl of
tennis and with cleaving his sport in two, thanks to the leading role he’s played in the launch of the Saudi-backed LIV Golf.
Has he changed – or have his true colours simply come to the fore? That’s the question Jane Cadzow set out to answer in today’s cover story, for which she spoke to many of his close associates over the years, from Chris Evert’s ex-husband Andy Mill, once one of Norman’s closest friends, to former managers, colleagues and fellow golfers. What is it that makes Norman tick? Read on.

My answer to the question is that he has always been an arsehole...just saying like. Just ask Bill Clinton. 🤔

I love golf, have played off single figures. Not now though. A game you never truly master. Whenever I feel my self esteem is getting a bit high, I play golf and that sorts that usually.

I always had a soft spot for David Duval, a professional golfer who is allergic to grass has some determination,

I've some friends who are trying to get me into it. Only played a few games. I find, once or twice a round, I'll do a good shot off the tee or fairway and it's enough to make me think I'll do it again. Had one lesson so far..... only to find out pretty much everything I was doing was wrong.

My advice is not to have too much in your head when you play, just keep your swing smooth, do not try and hit it hard. Always remember that putting and chipping are the keys to a good score.

Find a good teaching pro. Stick with him for at least 15 lessons

Exact same reason why men love fishing. Its always that one time you got that big one that always lives in your head and makes up for the bad times.

As bruce says get a coach. Once a week. Driving range in between honing that lesson. Makes a massive difference to your game and enjoyment.

Start thinking now of how you will explain to the missus that getting a $3k customised set is essential to your health and wellbeing...

I have been a golfer all my life but now rarely play.
Why? Time and distance
I used to live close to two driving ranges and three very good courses.
So at least twice a week I could get to the range, and before every game I could have a decent warmup.
Then I moved to another part of Auckland.
The nearest driving ranges are the two I left behind.
The club I joined I soon found out why it was easy to join. The course is for mountain goats and the facilities are meh.
There is a top flight course very close to home, but no driving range and there is a waiting list for members.
So I just lost interest because I don't have that amount of free time to waste driving to a decent course and facilities.

We do not have any driving ranges here atm, there are parks where you can practice. Two good courses in town, one links, one parkland. Some lovely little country courses. The Te Puia Springs open is legendary, if you get the chance to play take plenty of Berocca. A cheeky mate of mine was asked to step outside by a Coastie female shearer at the Te Puia pub. We are pretty sure it was for a fight but he did the sensible thing and did a runner

Driving ranges are the best. Especially the ones with a moving target (caged cart that goes around collecting all the balls).
There's a reason we don't have any driving ranges here in South Auckland.... in case a bro retrieving the balls gets annoyed at the golfers and starts firing a few of them back at them.

The one by the airport was great until the crack heads started going there cause it was open 24 hours...

There is a little place called Patutahi near Gisborne that has a 9 hole course. Great place. A mate told me his group teed off, someone hit a low drive and hit one of the sheep grazing the fairway right on the head. They were really concerned as the sheep was staggering around. Then another sheep started humping it. No good scores in that group that day.
