Mighty Mt Albert Vs. Howick Hornets. Looking forward to it at Mt Smart. I think some useless team is playing afterwards.

Feels a bit like they devalued the final by having it as the curtain raiser for the Warriors.

Howick are the underdogs I’d say, they played a couple of weeks ago and Mt Albert won 18-4

Back in the day, the Fox final crowd would have been far bigger than the current warriors crowds.

I wonder if the Warriors recruiting will bother to get to the ground earlier to watch the Fox Final? They may see a player or two worth having a punt on.
There are some good RL names in the Mt Albert team ... Ropati (son of John),* Hiley (son of Greg), Ackland (son of John). All Uni students too, so have the smarts.
* assuming he’s picked

Warriors recruitment had Ackland and let him go. He has been brilliant in the Fox. They also had

Warriors had Ackland and Fineanganofo and weren’t interested in signing them, they have got better and better at Mt Albert. Recruitment at warriors non existent never at games to see who is around. Hopefully anyone playing today that’s good enough to play NRL gets picked up by a club that can coach, warriors have shown the have the worst coaching staff in the NRL.

The Fox doesn't seem to be of any interest to the Warriors. Is it that bad. They seem to be more interested in secondary schools first15 comps. I realise those comps have some great athletes but surely there must be other routes to the Warriors and the local competition should be one.

I really enjoyed the game.The fans were very tribal and passionate - just like being back at Carlaw Park. Shame that the Lions went down but Howick are a good club.
The current Warriors could learn a lot from these 2 sides, especially wanting to do the best for your team mates, supporters, coaching staff etc.

BTw ... all of the Mt Albert points came from ex St Peters boys

Of all the players who have debuted in the last 10 years do you know how many came through the Fox Memorial and had no junior association with any NRL club?

Two players. Suaia Matagi and Manu Ma'u. And the only reason why they weren't part of any junior system is because they went to jail as juniors. No one is going to waste time and resources on such slim pickings.

I can guarantee you that there isn't a single kid playing Fox that hasn't already had a scout from at least 5 clubs casting an eye over them...

Absolutely if they're not in the Nrl system somewhere (Junior Squads, QCup, NSWCup etc) then they are definately 4/5th cab off the rank.
