Fair enough. How does he go at hooker? I haven't seen him in that position. Covering at hooker at NRL level is obviously different to specialising at hooker at test level, but do you reckon he was up to the task? Do you think he would have done a better job at hooker than Heremaia?

At the time Heremaia was in great form, unfortunately he has waned since then.

Feleti Mateo has played his last game for the Eels.

He is on report and should miss next weeks game!

Might miss 1st game next year for us as well.

Pre-season games count as matches. So he would have to be banned for 5 weeks miss a game for the Warriors.

Interesting. Would he still be allowed to play in the trials? I'd guess yes? But when it comes to the judiciary and their rules I start to think bad, paranoid, samurai sword like thoughts. Would suck if we cant try out combinations with our new players until the regular season.

Sterling had a really good idea whereby a player who gets a suspension in the finals series cops the penalty the following season, so that the finals really are the best of the best. (Much like the way FIFA wipes clean player slates in the World Cup semi-finals.)

I really like that idea, except in a case like Mateo where he's changing clubs after the season ends, and I'm not sure how the rule should then be applied.

MAn hes a freak, he was going great again last night. No risk no reward I guess. Ivans either gonna turn him into a smart footballer and make him a superstar or hes gonna coach it out of him and he might be the new Denan Kemp

Part of Mateo coming over was because Ivan told him he wants him to play his natural game, as attacking as possible. So here's hoping he doesn't.

Mateo needs to do a lot of work during the off season. His fitness is one. Warriors should keep tabs on him during the offseason so he doesnt turn up to camp overweight. Guys dangerous for sure but we need that dangerous on the field for longer minutes.

He can play good minutes. I think he plays only about 50 mins most weeks is to accommodate Justin Horo. Besides, Luck, Mannering and even Lewis Brown go such long minutes that it shouldn't be too much of an issue. One thing I have noticed with Feleti is he works so much better on a deep set backline, or playing to a short side when a centre is caught in at marker. I think we'll have to set up slightly deeper in attack to get the best out of Feleti.

It's interesting you say that because something I noticed last night was the depth at which our guys were running onto the ball (especially when in the opposition 20) which made us look far more dangerous and more capable of breaking the line.

Watch any match from '09 and our backline was a lot flatter and had less time to do anything once they received the ball which resulted in some impotent sets of six. I'm not sure who takes credit for this, Cleary or Iro (or both), but hats off to them.

Correct, we definitely did. A good example of the depth last night was Seymour's pass that didn't quite hit Manu on the chest... They were looking to give him good early ball with space to move against 1 or 2 defenders. It was a very good set up.

Based on our game and the first half the eels played last night, we will absolutely slaughter them next week. Though I kind of hope we only win close, Nathan Cayless deserves better then what his team has been dishing up for him lately.

If our attack looks anything like that next year with Mateo then shit, it's gunna be an interesting year. Granted the Broncos were bad, but the boys were also really, really, good.

I agree. No matter how poor a team is, you still have to play well to put 30+ points on. In regards to the backline, I agree. It was great seeing us run with so much depth. Tate's linebreak was testiment to that, great cut out pass from Hohaia too.

Warriors broke the back of the Broncos in the 1st half... i dont think they where poor,Warriors where just aweome...Broncos had to tackle and tackle. And where trapped in that right northern corner for ages which must of been demoralising

NEW ZEALAND Warriors-bound utility Feleti Mateo vowed during his short but emotion-charged address at the club's presentation night during the week that he'd one day return to the Eels.
The normally reserved Mateo, whose contract wasn't renewed by the Eels, insisted on addressing the audience after he and other departing players Kris Keating and Krisnan Inu were presented with gifts of appreciation from the club.
''People say what will I miss. I'll miss the people,'' Mateo said. ''I'll miss the boys. It's so sad.
''I come from Parra, so I'll be back, for sure.''

I hope he doesn't mean as a player, I hate it when players say things like that, a la Denan Kemp. I'm fairly sure he just means he will go back home eventually, but I thought it was worth noting.
