Coach: Meninga

Wizards weapons writeup:

My team is based around a skilful forward pack with an elite spine and fast, ball playing backs, finished with absolute speedsters on the wings.

Like any great team, our biggest strength is the spine. The little general, NZ, greatest ever half, controls the teams attacking options and his combination with Slater at the back will carve up the opposition. Both edges are skilful, powerful and more than solid in defence, tied together by Jim Dymock (3 times Dally M lock) dominating the centre. The game plan would be similar to the Storm with pace and ball playing speed blowing oppositions away with the spine creating space and the backs carving up.

T-Rex is a point of difference, bought on in the second row to target a tiring defence. Imagine Elias scooting out of the play the ball and committing defenders, out to Jones who has T-Rex thundering at the defensive line. Jones can serve him the short ball or alternatively with His superior ball handling, cut back inside to a storming Slater or throw the cut out ball to Hayne in the outside… an unstoppable force unleashed on the opposition.

This team is not only an attacking force, it’s also a defensive wall. Mark Geyer - a physical and aggressive defender, Kevin Iro - the original beast, Elias (triple Daly M hooker) is adept at leading the defensive line, and big Marty Bella and Nathan Cayless both being huge powerhouses up front. Not to mention Slater at the back if they happen to get through…

Wizards weapons - an unstoppable force in attack and immovable objects in defence. A well rounded team, whose complimentary combinations make the team greater than the sum of all parts.

DavidMcKay's Nga Tama Toa o Te Waipounamu (The South Island Warriors)

1: Darius Boyd
2: Josh Addo-Carr
3: Mark Coyne
4: Michael Jennings
5: Sean Hoppe
6: Alfie Langer
7: Brett Kimmorley
8: Ruben Wiki
9: Cameron Smith (c)
10: Greg Dowling
11: Isaiah Papali'i
12: Tony Puletua
13: Jason Taumalolo

14: Thomas Leuleuai
15: Manu Ma'u
16: Ben Hunt
17: Corey Harawira-Naera

Coached by: Craig Bellamy

I chose to have a need for speed for the back 3 with Boyd, Addo-Carr and Sean Hoppe at the top of their games followed by speedy and strong centers in Coyne and Jennings.

Then in the Halves I also chose speed, but also quick thinking, and great at getting the ball where ever it has to be. I placed Langer at 6 because I believe he could get the ball out to the backs faster or eye that open space, and with Kimmorley his kicking was the key.

In the forward pack it had to be muscle, muscle, muscle which is why Taumalolo is at 13 for the one two punch, with Papali'i and Puletua providing that other one two connection follwing Taumalolo's blistering runs.

Both Wiki and Dowling were chosen as props for their no nonsence attitude and could give as good as they could take. They don't suffer fools easily.

As for my number 9. Cameron Smith has to be argubly the GOAT, woth his quick wits, and his uncanny ability to look for spaces, and look for the line, and forty twenties. I also made him Captain because he knew when to go as close to the line with the referees as best as he could, and not go too far over that line.

As for bench Thomas Leuleuai could be back up for the loose forwards, as well as 9, Ma'u and Hawira Naera are the enforcers coming off the bench and Ben Hunt could back up the halves, as well as any need for finding that second 9 on the field.

Speedy, craftiness, strength, and aggression is what you need for a team now days and that is what I based my squad off.

To get the best out of that squad, I chose Craig Bellamy as the coach because he knows how to get the best out of the Storm when things got tough. Together with Smiths knowledge what more can be said about that partnership.

Nga Tama Toa o te Waipounamu has to be the best squad on paper period.

Strengths- That backrow of Nikau, Menzies and Cartwright is mouth watering. Big powerful backline and a premier half in JT to guide them round the field. Balanced bench and our goal kicking should be as good as anyones.

Weaknesses- Probably not the quickest team compared to some of the others. No cover if Cook goes down injured.

17.Luke Lewis

"BENCH MOB"

FRANO BOTICA
-
Dual international and wigan legend is a points scoring machine with ability to cover every position in the backline and also one of the best goal kickers to ever do it.
JARRED WAEREA HARGREAVES-
Aggressive big tough and did i mention aggresive JWH will add plenty of impact when he enters the game whether it be with or without the ball. One of the greatest modern day front rowers who wont take a backwards step to anyone.
BRYAN FLETCHER-
Another grub coming of the pine is one of the best second rowers of his time and when called upon to enter the game fletch will wreak havoc on opposition halves while running on a edge but is also physical enough to play through the middle.
LUKE LEWIS-
Panthers and sharks legend is the ultimate utility will play wherever and whenever needed.

"OUTSIDE BACKS"

KARMICHAEL HUNT-

"Special K" is a gifted athlete with great footwork and agility to go with an elite passing and kicking game which will create plenty of opportunities. Defensively one of the best fullbacks of all time he is as safe as it gets under the high ball and can hit with the best when tackling. He will also get sets started on the front foot with his kamakaze kick returns.

BRETT DALLAS-
Speed speed and speed brett dallas is one of the best finishers of all time at all levels of rugby league give him half an inch and he will take a mile. Every team needs a redhead and you cant get much better than this queensland and kangaroos legend.

MATT COOPER-
The first of my "fire and ice" center pairing is the cool calm and collected matt cooper a noted speedster coops is one of the greatest defensive centers the game has seen his habit of shutting down opposition centers will be crucial and his hard running and ability to put his winger away makes him perfect for this team.

TIMANA TAHU-
An athletic freak timana tahu makes up the second half of my "fire and ice" center pairing. The hot headed Tahu is blessed with speed, agility mixed with power and aggression and given space he will terrorise any opposing center. Will also put fear into opposition edge players knowing timana will come flying out of the line at any moment.

DAVID FUSITUA-
Naturally gifted athlete one of the best finishes the nrl has seen and a player few can match in the air. The talent around him makes his job simple he's there to catch bombs start sets strong coming out of our own end and finish try scoring opportunities.

"THE HALVES"

CAMERON MUNSTER-

The complete five eight running kicking passing(dancing on tables) you name it he's got it covered and far as big game players go few can rise to the occasion better than the money man Cameron Munster who has dominated on the biggest stage at every level. Munster is an instinctive player who does not rely on structure and will thrive on having a fullback and lock who can take pressure of him to organise allowing him to play whats in font of him which is when he is most dangerous.

CRAIG GOWER-
The Organiser of my team Penrith legend Craig Gower will pull the strings with his passing game and direction and will kick teams to death with one of the most accurate kicking games ever seen. A strong running game and defensively sound Gower is the perfect foil for his halves partner.

"THE PACK"

WILLIE MASON-

Big Willie will add Big runs big offloads big hits and big hair. Willie Mason at his best was the most dominating forward in the world. Just one of many enforcers in my forward pack.
RICHARD SWAIN-
Tackling Machine workhorse good service every team needs an unsung hero and mine just happens to be a nrl premiership winner a 260 game first grade player, 19 test kiwi and a former kiwi test captain
PAUL HARRAGON-
The Chief brings everthing you want in a forward leader a fearless player who will leave everything out on the field. A player who you would follow into battle with no hesitation one of toughest to do it and a noted hitman an absolute legend and co captain of the Goon Squad.
GORDEN TALLIS-
The Raging Bull the most aggressive player i have ever seen. A competitor like no other Tallis will also co captain the Goon Squad
SONNY BILL WILLIAMS-
Freak of nature, one of one. Big athletic powerful and skillful with an offload thats unmatched and probably the most damaging shoulders seen on a rugby league field will ensure the Goon Squad has more hits than the beatles
HENRY PAUL-
Skillfull playmaker Henry Paul will play lock in my team similiar to the role victor radley plays for the roosters. His footwork and speed around the ruck will cause havoc for tiring defences and his world class goal kicking will mean the score goes up in sixes.

Brownstone’s Big Bastards

1. Greg Inglis
2. Dale Shearer
3. Mal Meninga
4. Richie Blackmore
5. Andrew Ettinghausen
6. Brett Kenny
7. Peter Sterling
8. Shane Webcke
9. Danny Buderus
10. Ben Matulino
11. Ali Lauiti’iti
12. Ben Kennedy
13. Brad Fittler

14. Noel Cleal
15. Billy Moore
16. Frank-Paul Nu’uausala
17. Paul Rauhihi

Coach: Tim Sheens
Home Ground: Grey Lynn Park

The Big Bastards are a team stacked with size, skill and speed. At fullback is future immortal candidate Greg Inglis who has all of those attributes to freakish levels along with a fine speed boat.

The wingers have blistering pace with indigenous Australian winger of the century Dale Shearer & NRL Hall of Fame inductee E.T. the perfect compliments to the monstrous centre pairing of Richie Blackmore & the immortal & toe hacking sharp shooting colossus (and captain of the Bastards) Mal Meninga.

The halves pairing need no introduction - ‘The Natural’ Brett Kenny & the best halfback of the 1980’s Peter Sterling led the Parramatta Eels to 4 premierships between 1981-86. Two further Bastards in the Hall of Fame who present arguably the best halves combination in NRL history.

At lock is the legendary side-stepping genius Freddy Fittler who provides the perfect link between the Bastards skilful & uncompromising forward pack & the ultra-talented backline. The modern lock needs playmaking skills along with resolute defence and none come better than the Bastards fifth Hall of Famer.

One of the toughest bastards of all time, Ben Kennedy, & the bloke who could produce a ball from his arse, Ali Lauiti’iti play second row for the Bastards. Both are incredibly skilful ball runners and aggressive defenders.

Up front is one of the greatest props of all time, Hall of Fame inductee Shane Webcke and the heart & soul of the Warriors forward pack for many years, Ben Matulino. Relentless forward momentum is what these two bring, laying the platform for the brilliance around them to excel.

To round out the starting 13 is one of the greatest hookers of all time, Danny Buderus. There isn’t much this Dally M medallist & Hall of Fame inductee (that’s 7 of them) didn’t achieve across a stellar career, and his intimate knowledge of his Knights understudy Joey Johns will come in handy when the Bastards come up against ‘the 8th’.

The bench of NSW born Billy ‘Queenslander’ Moore, Noel ‘Crusher’ Cleal, Paul ‘Rrrow-Hee-Hee’ (I didn’t make that up) Rauhihi & Frank-Paul ‘the Wrecking Ball’ Nu’uausala provide quality rotation depth to a formidable starting pack of Bastards.

1. Gary Belcher

7. Ricky Stuart

11. Ian Roberts
12. Tonnie Carroll
13. Brandon Smith

14. Duane Mann
15. Russle Packer
16. Matt Rua
17. Shaun Kenny-Dowall

Coach: Genghis Khan,
Home ground: parts unknown.

Well it all starts upfront folks and Civoniceva and Roach need no introduction- the two most dominant and decorated props of their generation. Men mountains with ball skills and bad intentions.
Speaking of bad intentions….. their replacement Russle “fudge” Packer- Soaked in urine and looking to stomp MFs- a propping rotation nightmares are made of.
In the back row two of the biggest hitters of all time- Ian Roberts and Tonnie Carroll- when these two were on the field, people ran the other way but there’s no respite because spelling them is 5 x winner of the players poll biggest hitter- Matt Rua- there’s no where to hide.
I wrestled with the decision to move Joey Johns the greatest ever halfback to hooker- I knew he had played there a lot for NSW but after researching the idea discovered he actually played 12 of his 25 test matches at hooker- this guy was born to play football and won the 96 grand final for Newcastle with a dart from dummy half in the dying seconds of one of the most famous games of all time.
There’s a beautiful balance in the halves with master game manager Ricky Stuart utilizing his unmatched kicking and passing games to free up the genius of Benji Marshall.
The outside backs are giants with pace and skill- Miles, turbo, Latrell and Izzy- wtf is that! Scary shit.
The classy Gary Belcher claims the number 1 jersey ahead of some stiff competition- his speed and elusive running style complimented by his cool head and safe hands- the total package.
This team is scary- u don’t want them running at u and u definitely don’t wanna be running at them- big men with power and timing who hit hard right across the park.
On attack the width of passing is gonna tear teams apart- u can be hitting one edge then a 20 meter ball from johns hits stuart who throw an even longer ball that hits Benji on the chest on the other edge- that’s a two pass shift and now u have one of the greatest attacking players of all time counting numbers with turbo on his shoulder, Belcher out the back and Folau the long ball option- how do u stop that?
Shift it the other way and gene miles and Latrell are the targets- unfathomable.
🏉 👊 ☠️💪🦍⚡🌪️💥

Coach Wayne Bennett.
Home ground. Suncorp.

I won’t wax as lyrically as the others have. (largely because I’m not very good at it) But will describe the basis of my team.
For me I tried to choose the most dominant front row rotation I could. All capable of big minutes noted defenders and barnstorming runners they in my humble opinion should at least match to any squad. (I suspect Fifita would be chosen to start midway through the second half and be told to just run hard, by coach Bennett). Not many games are won with a forward pack going backwards.
From this likely front foot ball Luke should be freed up to run if the opportunity arises.
The spine i envisage not having to do much more than use their vision, passing and kicking (long and short are covered) to put the attacking threats inside and outside them into space.
The outside backs are all classy, skilled, fast, solid defenders and noted finishers.
The back row is strong, capable and dependable with the ability to either work with gaps or create them for others.
Leadership is through out the team, making choosing a captain almost redundant.

Injuries are covered by the utility ability of Robby Paul and Henry to cover almost every position on the field. With Paul being able to inject himself into the spine late in the game to add some running spark and Henry although not blessed with the physical skills of other players is perfectly dependable. No team has ever lost a game because they played Ben Henry.

Also if anyone disagrees with this team. Feel free to take it up with Hopoate. He’s ready and waiting to discuss it with you, finger guns cocked and loaded.
