On the Sunday Roast, it has been said Daniel Anderson has been approached to coach the Penrith Panthers side in 2009.

nah I think he's enjoying it too much over there. Having far more success in England then he'd probably get in the NRL

WEarriors came unstuck with Anderson with his 'attitute' toward the PI boys (reportedly). Penrith have a truck load of PIs with more in their Toyota Cup side .. interesting.

Apparently it's all set and dry that he's coming back to Aussie next year. So I think he's leaving the ESL. And potentially looking for an NRL club.

The Panthers are the first on the rumours list!

Bellamy is the modern League equivalent of Genghis. Borderline psychotic. Our club isn't ready to accept this approach. Closest we've had was Dan Anderson, and Mark Graham to a degree. Anderson was run outta town by a few dedicated fuckheads within the club with gang affiliations. We've since gone with the Elliot/Cappy feels. From the little I've had to do with Kearney years ago; very affable guy but I wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of him. At the time of his appointment I thought he might be a good medium between the Australian and Kiwi "cultures", or at least a last attempt at doing things the NZ way within the NRL. I'd give him a pass mark so far, but if he can't get anywhere with them in 2-3 years, it'll be time to go full Bellamy.

Would appreciate a bit of a history lesson re. Daniel Anderson's exit... Was he really 'chased out' of the club? Too young to remember/know about that period of our clubs history!

Daniel Anderson started off humble enough but i think became psychotic once he was successful. Happens to the best of us. A real bastard by all accounts. Ironic he repeated it when coaching the Eels to a GF before they fell apart soon after. We could do with another Daniel Anderson to be honest. None of that mates mate, cosy cosy shit you see and hear from Cappy, Elliot...

I was around and supporting the club during the Anderson years and I never quite figured out what happened either.
One year we were world beaters and the next we were the Warriors again with a fill in coach
The newspapers only said so much, and a lot of that was wrong or conjecture
I would love to know the full story

From memory it wasn't that different to the Cappy/Hurrell saga, but those guys weren't under today's social media scrutiny and it was also right before "PC". It went something like this: a mysterious underworld figure named Eric Watson bought the liquidated club and hired Anderson, an assistant Parra coach who had a real abrasive Sydney hardass cu** attitude which shook a lot of our boys up. He was an advocate of psychological techniques that centred on the use of traditional Australian phrases that could be interpreted as intended to make you want to kys if you didn't do what he said 100% of the time. A few of our boys & fam began to feel he was too disrespectful and was undermining the mana of some of the "star" players. It all came to a head during a dramatic halftime motivater at Suncorp where he "lost a lot of mana" and subsequently got shafted, or "quit". Whether he was actually psychotic before, during or after coaching the Warriors is conjecture, but he can still be seen sometimes wandering dishevelled and foaming at the mouth past Parramatta car dealerships shouting with Anglo Saxon eloquence "Pass the fuckin ball to your winger Toopi you stupid fukn grinning rockape cu**" at "no one".

This reminds me of That 70's Show when Fez is describing his ant farm.

Once, I had an ant farm. And they would not build their tunnels. I was furious, so I became very strict and stern with my
ants. First they feared me and everything was fine. But eventually, the ants broke out and attacked me. So I had to kill them.

I think Anderson only had one way and it was destined for short term results only. At the moment Kearney is playing a longer game where he's going to set up his machine and then replace the parts that refuse to fit.

If you are truly ignorant of the Anderson years let me enlighten you.

The club you need to understand was almost at the point of being dissolved.

Seriously it was at its lowest ebb....yeah worse than this current shit.

The NRL jungle drums beat a tale of the one city sleeping giant now preparing for total collapse.

Enter stage left a nobody P.E. teacher from Sydney's West.

From day one Anderson fronted the controversy surrounding the Warriors in media interview.

Anderson was asked the Warrior question at job interveiw " how will you deal with relating to a team full of Polynesian players ?

Anderson went against the convention of 'understanding Polynesian culture by answering that ' I don't care if a player is White brown yellow or Green '

That answer sold Warrior bosses.

Mathew Ridge embraced that idea of culture free considerations publicly.

That idea of Mono culture from DA would come back to haunt him in the end ( the Ali Lauitiiti affair).

Any who......Anderson.....was initially viewed as a joke.

A no name.....even lesser than Elliot's appointment..... At least Elliot had an NRL name.

Anderson was a schools coach with some extra bits.

Round one under Anderson:

He and CEO Mick Watson sign one big name Kevin Campion. An ageing James Graham type to lead the rest.

The rest of Anderson's team was a clean out.....no name club players Faafili, Toopi, Meli, Tony, get a shot from nowhere.

Anderson coincidentally has no name Giant Warrior forwards in his Virgin side.

Anderson decides that he will use Campion to lead the Warriors to learn Aussie style defensive footy.

Game one they lose.

Lots of Warrior fans give up.

Game two they win an unlikely David and Goliath contest.

The pattern continues for that season where we up and down lose one win one.....all acknowledge that is better than what came before......our best season since 95.

Anderson manages with our weakest roster ( reputation only) to perform a miracle 12 Wins.....12 Losses...2 draws.

We make the eight for the first time n our history and get destroyed in the preliminaries by Anderson's former club.

The media are a rage of love for Anderson's no name brave Warriors.

Campion gets made God and solution for Warrior leadership forever more ' we need a hard nose Aussie'

Legend has it that when Campion first walked into Warriors gym.....all players froze.....kids stared......'if he wants to be here.....we must be something'

Media circled Anderson to tease out his secrets....

Anderson admitted he tried to convert Warriors to Aussie systems...

Tellingly he gave up when players continued to win with NZ Jungle ball play.

This was a sentient moment in Warrior history...

While we watch Kearney demand Aussie process we are reminded of the Anderson solution.

Anderson decided to throw his chips in with the Jungle ball stuff.

Anderson forced the Warriors to practice playing the ball, Passing the ball, and catching the ball.

This not my fanciful musings, Anderson was quoted as such at the time

As such he was a genius.....as a school teacher he knew he could teach the Warriors talented how to crawl before you walk.

Like a Roman Emperor, Anderson became high on the Elixir of power.

He is rumored to have played a tape at half time during the Warriors 1st GF ....a tape which featured the Warriors V Broncos ( the roosters made it through not the vaunted Brisbane side).

It is said that Campion smashed the radio in anger.

In other words.....Anderson was a flawed Genius.

He became a maniac in the end.

If you compare his behavior to the modern era.......imagine Kearney getting security to march one of his players from Mt Smart coz they placed God and Family higher than a stupid sports club

Lastly Anderson was the most driven coach we have seen for love of Big Warrior forwards to win a comp.

All I know...is that before DA went mad.....he was way better than any other coach we have ever had. To this day he is the only man who found a schema to unleash our natural style in a winning way.

1st ever finals appearance.

1st ever Minor premiership.

1st ever Grand final appearance.

1st ever serious attack post finals loss at the GF ( if Logan Swan offloaded we get GF back to back).

Season Four, players lose faith....Sack wooden spoon coach.

Latterly people admire clearys kick to Manu tacklebot one GF ways like they even compare to Anderson's reign of terror on the NRL...

Fuck knows why.

Did he go mad? Maybe the players ego's grew faster than their skills and they thought they were beyond coaching unless it was a big name coach. I liked Ali but his career never reached the level it did under DA.

One of the key points of Anderson's time at the Warriors was the maturation of Stacey Jones, was Anderson coaching the team or was it Jones? I also believe he had a falling out with Kevin Campion over a tape recorded motivation speech he played at half-time of the Grand Final.

Nicely packaged summary Sup42... perhaps SK is a little too ''new age sensitive'' and should head out harder a little. That might be just what the boys are missing, some essential respect, but also a little (just enough) fear. I'm with you, including mistakes until you don't give it all, then I'm against you. You might want to think what that would be like...

Can only observe it from the outside as I have no inside knowledge of what really goes on.

Yeah I think it seems a bit unfair to blame the collapse squarely on Anderson "going mad" (although it was a factor)

From memory a few of the players got pretty big heads (Toopi, Sione, Faafili spring to mind) and started living the rock star lifestyle. The outrageous hair styles and post try antics to stand out on camera etc.
What was originally a few no-name players trying to prove themselves turned into some players forgetting the hard work that got them there and started to play for the highlight reels, things started to unravel and a statement was needed- this happened with the poor handling of the " Lauitiiti incident" and the final nail was SJ exiting and the players were lost forever by the coach.

At least that's how I remember it

Anderson might have been unknown to fans but was well known to Mick Watson. The story I heard that EW told Ridge he was looking at buying the Warriors. Ridge said he was crazy. EW said he as was dead serious and asked for help.

Mick Watson was working for Pepsi in Sydney and had been asked by Manly to mentor Ridge into managing all the money he was earning. So Ridge went to Mick Watson and introduced him to EW. EW asked Mick Watson to draw up some management ideas, which EW really liked and offered him the job as CEO.

They needed a good coach. Mick Watson knew DA well and suggested him to EW. Being cheap would have helped sway EW. They they fluked getting Campion who had signed for the ESL but family issues cahnged his mind and the Warriors were the only option prepared to pay much.

I know one thing for sure. Until Anderson arriving at training on time was an option not a duty. It must have been that way for years. Aussie clubs have always demanded punctuality at training. Anderson got them turning up on time immediately. So he was a hard arse and it got the monkeys behaving. The trouble was Anderson didn't understand the bro culture, there were more of them than him so they won, also his CEO left the planet and I think was the one who got Ali escorted out, not DA.

It all says as much about the club as Anderson.

Anderson was mentored by Brian Smith and both similar coaches, both intelligent men who could develop a game plan around the squad but both control freaks who would fall out with their teams after a couple of years. Instant results but long term problems.

John Mitchell and Laurie Mains are the union equivalents.

Kearney is not in that mould but we will see more about his abilities when he has assembled his own squad next year.

Interesting. I wonder if the club hands out fines for being late because if not they definitely should. 30 seconds or 30 minutes if you show up late to a training, meeting or anything team related instant $1000 fine or something along those lines.
