NRL Club Loan Players

Playdaball

With a club like Parramatta struggling for players due to injury, should the Warriors consider a short term loan for 1st squad member players such as Mellars & Fatialofa? These types of guys (if Parra wanted them) would gain valuable 1st grade experience rather than playing in the NSW Cup.
If they were to play 1st grade it would be better for their development that the NSW Cup.
Thoughts - remembering that we had loan players during the COVID period?

It would be a great opportunity for Fatialofa. New city, different coaches & perspectives.
For Mellars it'd be his third club set up in the space of a year though so maybe not as beneficial.

Plot twist send Metcalf jokes aside if we are at full strength I wouldn’t mind sending Fatialofa and even EIT for a few games

Good idea nothing beats 1st grade experience.

The NRL have moved from conservative on expansion when you look at the timeframe between the Titans than the Dolphins To quite keen on expansion. When you compare the next few years with Perth, PNG and Team 20, potentially after that.

A lot of discussions on the talent pool diluting. A player loan system could help alleviate that.

There is a case for expanding the squad numbers. Especially now with the extended benches in first grade. That will push the pressure on depth even harder. More teams and deeper squads. Hopefully with more money in the upcoming broadcasting deal this is something they look at. More athletes employed in a professional environment should in time help improve the depth.

Player loans like salary caps and drafts are part of professional sports. I can't see the NRL having a draft. A loan system is more likely.

As stated already It worked during covid. It also worked with Grant going to the Tigers to get experience before returning to the Storm.

The Storm loaning Grant to the Tigers worked and that is a player having to move to another State for the year.

Do you see it being another advantage for Sydney clubs? Players can be loaned to another club for a 6 weeks, the rest of the season without moving house.

Nope. Never give a sucker an even break. I never risk my investments. With our injury record, they'll get an opportunity soon enough. It's a no from me.

Fatialofa is behind Halasima, Capewell, Laban, Gannon, Niukore & EIT for an edge spot. Loans can be short term things. In 2021 Corey Horsbourgh played Rds 22 & 23 for the Bulldogs before getting recalled to play Rds 24 & 25 for the Raiders. We may not get 3 concurrent injuries needed for Fatialofa to get a run this year & his form is pretty stagnant in NSW Cup. It could be the making of him, despite some risk involved
