I asked the same question - rare, but if you have your current employer ( who wants to get rid of you ), a prospective employer ( who wants to hire you) and your agent ( who possibly has your authority to work in your best interest ) ...maybe. Put it this way - you're dead man walking if you fight it. The exact words to scurrah was ' come outside. You f...d me over - I'm going to do the same to you. '

Classic
I believe that Buck what your saying, heard recently about the friction between certain people in management and FG players.

Packer needs a new agent by the sounds of it - harsh really but that's professional sport at that level in league; to still think he could come back to haunt us if he get's on board with Bennett's way.

Packer definitely needs a new manager if this trade deal is true!

Wouldnt put it past his manager. I know of one players manager who is mates with the club and didnt tell his client of a deal that was tabled by the Roosters. Player only found out after he signed with the Warriors for less then the Roosters deal. Funny thing is, he still has the same manager...

Please ...Packer
Its just that he is a big sook ( im taking the piss - it would still be a hard thing to go through) - wellcome to the NRL...it happens to 3 or 4 players at evey club in the NRL.

HIs manager would of been told they arent too keen on Packer - he is free to look around.
He must of been on TOP COIN for the Warriors or he is a complete asshole or combination of the two.

Again...I think people are far overeading the situation aka Silly season.

As for the last statement...I wouldnt believe everything the players tell you. They either wouldnt know themselves or trying to make themselves feel better.
If he was a junior (say Taukieaho) then Warrior would of already had first option.[DOUBLEPOST=1382684889][/DOUBLEPOST]
He won't be the first or last player to exit in tears when hearing the news the club wants to get rid of him, i do have quite a bit of sympathy for him if he found out in the manner described, especially in the midst of all the wanking on that goes on and end of year events, "were gonna be great next year, thanks to everyone who is leaving - but not you Russell, you don't count, we aren't going to recognize your contribution".

Even if he lands on his feet at the knights, it still sucks. Think about the prop who used to always chase back on breakaways when our star backs couldn't be arsed. It's not like he didn't try when he was out there, deserves more than that.

It's a harsh industry, i wonder if the some of the boys might be a bit sheltered at the warriors, remember these are the chosen ones, the ones who made it to the U20's, the ones who were earmarked for first grade star status, if they think the warriors are being all mean to them, wait until they see what the oz clubs are like...

Also a trade implies we would be getting something back from the knights!

Some sense ..[DOUBLEPOST=1382685090][/DOUBLEPOST]

Which FG players? probably fringe FG'ers that happens at all clubs.
They are bitter but really need to worry about themselves imo.

Fringe first graders aye, if only you knew who the real trouble maker is?

In my experience its the fringe players that cause the least commotion. Theyre too worried just trying to make the 17 to have too much sway in the changing rooms.

Dont jump to conclusions...

Just reading into the media extracts and the odd talk in the street with league people around town, things aren't rosey btwn HQ an players ATM - auckland league community is pretty close, people have connections all ova the place.

Slaughter your right its silly season, its probaly getting over read but im just saying imo players shouldnt cop so much flak abt the perserved negative clique in the FG team - every team needs brotherhood.

Talk that next year is stuffed already is not comprehensible this far out. I actually think there is a really good squad there and if they have a good pre season and the players realise that the coach coaches and the players play it will go a long way towards success.

As far as club management goes my opinion is that it needs a floor to ceiling review. This has been well publicised with ME's comments. When you look at the history of the Warriors there has been a fair number of knobends through the years starting with Robson. It does concern me that such deals are done that happened to Russell Packer. You can bang on about how it is a tough job and players are traded every year. However, the strongest bond for players involve loyalty and it appears the Warriors showed stuff all in this matter. No wonder the players are livid.

What needs to happen now is that the front office needs to get the hell out of the way of the team. As far as the team goes ME is God, Scurrah in particular needs to keep the fuck away. Problem children who need to culled despite their abilities extends to Management as well. It actually shows the need for someone to have a role of football manager and handle such negotiations.

It seems to me reading between Mt Wgtn's post is that disruptive elements are among the senior established players. Therefore it is even more important that as of the first day of pre-season ME is God, Scurrah and any other front office shiny bum has to defer to ME over team matters. If the disruptive player(s) beef is with Scurrah and/or front office in particular there are only two alternatives IMO, dump him or promote him to the leadership group,

It may be the time has come for the front office to be sorted, My suggestion would be to get someone people from outside the club, to carry out a review. one name I would suggest would be Graham Henry along with a senior member of the Business Community. There would have to be someone with a good knowledge of NZ League who is outside the Warriors system. It appears to be a broken toy, if it is shown to be OK so be it. Otherwise a restructure is on the cards.

That is why it is so important to separate the administration from the team. It can be done. Manly are a cot case other than on the field. They go OK.

Who?

For mine ....the most important people leaders in the squad.
Not neccesarily the best players.

Guys like Mannering, TL, Mateo, Vatuvei, Rapira, Lillyman even Jerome Ropati if resigned.

Clearly Matulino expressed unhappiness but when the club upgrade and extend contract you saying he wont accept.
I assume they would do the same for Shaun Johnson. Hurrell the same.

There is nobody else really of that much importance.

They have probably already had a review - hence heaps of investment and changes.
I think they should hold course and continue with any planned changes.

They showed heaps of improvement for mine last year.

Packer and his manager is a non-issue - dont be precious over it.
If Packer did storm out of awards - this talk of he didnt know is rubbish.

He would of had to sign a contract with his manager - he would of had to agree to a release.
Im sure it was emotional.

Elliots regime will be measured by the 2014 season and potentially the start of the 2015 season.

I agree with you regarding the improvement and I am happy with the way the recruiting is going. However, there is something that happened in that deal involving Packer. I just want to be sure that the management are acting with the players knowledge. As a 100 game one club player Russell Packer deserved, and is entitled to, a fair and transparent process. As I said previously his manager has a lot to answer for in this. My question is, why was Russell so angry with Scurrah. The resulting dissent amongst other players could be seen to be a pattern of dysfunction between the playing group and the front office. That is my concern. I always have the faint suspicion that the Warriors are content not to have on field success as long as they make profit.

I imagine some level of Ruthleness is required or else you will be sitting with the worst squad in the NRL
It happened to one player.

Parramatta did it too their whole squad.
Tigers to half their squad and every single NRL club.

Russell was obviously not happy about not being wanted.
However obviously the club werent happy with his behaviour and/or form.
Apparently Russell was one of the top paid players.

Obviously nobody actually knows what transpired - but I assume the manager was obviously told to explore opportunities.
He found something attractive and told Russell.

That honestly happens at every club - every off-season.

Russell will always be a warrior.

If they dont want to win footy game.
I am pretty sure the Owners wouldnt have gone to the extent to spend mega bucks on a new gym and they have heaps of staff etc.

I know this on the wrong thread but if ME doesn't work out by the end of 2014 - stuff 2015 , get someone else IMO; with the friction between the FG players and HQ, my take is HQ back the coach and the players are at opposite end - I know same rubbish as last year over the Iro/Bluey drama.

If the culture problems we are talking about genuinely exist within the club, then I can accept a couple of spoons of the wooden kind (not at the time, but in time), if it ultimately makes us a future powerhouse of the game.
Seriously, tasting wood for a few years to build a powerhouse it's unthinkable TBH.

.There is absolutely no need for the playing group to go backwards. With the squad having the depth in ability it has for next season that would suggest a complete melt down. The real missing element is player and team consistency of performance. It only needs one or two players to be clocking off and you are gone.

IMO anything other than the 8 this year is unthinkable and should be going for top 4. The team showed they can do it last year, wins over the majority of top 8 sides, including the grand finalists. Everybody just do their jobs in the club to the best of their ability 100% of the time. Administrators administrate, Coaches coach, Players play. Don't get caught up in anyone else's role.

As a coach said to us pre game one day. ' Rugby is a simple game, otherwise they wouldn't let you stupid pricks play it'

Would you rather carry on down the same lines as we have?

Ever since our 2011 greatness, we have looked like the beginnings of Parramatta. And if any of the stories doing the rounds have any semblance of truth, then we will continue to slip toward long-term failure. If it takes either a massive blood-letting or a wooden spoon or 2 to force this clean-out, then I support the club all the way. The apparent player power is getting out of hand. No player should ever feel a threat to the club would end well for their own career, yet it seems that is exactly what they are thinking. If that is the case, let them go. They will try it elsewhere, and eventually pump petrol for a living. But regardless, the club will survive. I am a strong believer that no player is bigger than the club or the game, and as such, no player should wield any power. They are simply employees put in to do a job. That job is success for the club, not power struggles.

We might find a couple bolters after Sunday mornings kick off for our Warriors. I will be looking at PNG in particular, just because they are raw, rugged and hard as mofos who like to put the hurt on. A bit of what we can do with for 2014. If any of there forwards shine and are with out an NRL/ESL contract . That's us Dean Bell, sign him up, be a bargain buy if my thoughts actually become reality.

What friction - obviously Packer but does anybody actually know anything for sure?
If so name them.

Like I said I couldnt imagine Mannering, TL, Lilyman, Mateo, Friend, Ropati, Hurrell, Matagi,Rapira, Bren Henry having any issue.
They are some of the leaders within the team - enough to create a positive environment

Guys like Shaun Johnson will get topups so wont be in a position to really feel to strongly against.

Those rumours are pretty much what ive heard 1st hand - naming the guys would scarifice them in the media IMO hopefully ME sorts his shit out for 2014 an stops changing the game plan all the time, stay on track, because i have seen how well he handles the media with all the talk.

That is what I thought but apparently not. A ex NRL player ( not warriors ) was at the award night. Packer stormed out and was crying in anger outside the building in the company of mutts, Locke, Louisi & one other player. He said packers contract had been traded to the knights in a 3 way deal between the warriors , knights and packers agent....packer had no knowledge until it was a done deal. There was a heated verbal exchange between scurrah and packer which packer threatened to step him out. Mutts apparently made the comment that this is it - one more season then gone.

Happens a lot in US sport. Contracts are traded all over the place. Some players have the bargaining power to negotiate a no trade clause but most don't.

In all fairness to Packer, he has been crap for 18 months. Serious under achiever who needed a change of scene.

Oath. I watched Moneyball only a few nights ago and the ruthlessness of the player trading, as depicted in the film, certainly comes to mind. To my mind, the essence of the matter is that professional sports clubs must often operate as a corporate business would. This can give the appearance, especially to emotionally invested fans, as being ethically dubious when tough business decisions are made.

Im sorry but your are apologists lol.

My point was it guys I have named? if not then its the players that need to come to the party.
Cut the excuses you have been crap for bluey, iro and at time elliot.
