We have all marvelled at the closeness of the NRL over the years and last year a forward pass was the difference between finishing 4th and 8th

So what’s happening this year?

I know it’s early season but there have been plenty of blowouts, where the contest is one sided.

Only 3 out of 22 games this season have finished within 6 points and 8 games games have blown out with 20+ points winning margins.

Yesterday the 3 games winning margins were 34, 26 and 30 points

The attacking teams seem to be finding the line and the defence Snd fitness seems optional at the moment

Hopefully it’s early season and the combinations will start to click in defence but it’s looking like a high scoring season!

It does look like a few teams are off the pace. At the moment we are one of them.

I think its probably a combination of things. Some teams have stuffed up their cap and need to rebuild like the Bulldogs. Or rebuilding in general or getting processes sorted under a new coach.

Not sure if it is realistic for the competition to be close each year as there are a lot of variables around it.

At the moment if there is going to be a disparity between the better sides and the rest. It could be one of the few things saving us.

Imagine the score line of us vs the storm at the moment. If we leak 40 against manly, it is conceivable that we could leak 60-70 against the storm

The total ineptitude of Greenberg letting cheating teams take from clubs that are playing by the rules, thus weakening one team immensely and strengthening another enormously is really skewing the comp. It is not a new problem, but the game is going through a superstar lull at the moment meaning the issue is more pronounced. Look at the list of halves at the moment, the quality is not high, with many either nearing the end of their career or playing out of position.

The Sharks have not had any penalty that has seriously affected their ability to perform over the next few years despite several years of sustained cheating. They are still massively better off as a result of their cheating. What Greenberg doesn't seem to get is that makes other teams significantly worse off.

I'd also like to see a rule in which juniors stayed in their own nursery until the age of 20. The Roosters and Broncos being able to buy all the best up and comers (cap free), is also severely depleting other teams. Indonesia was close to the richest countries in the world in terms of natural resources until the States pillaged them. It feels like that in the NRL currently. The Broncos have a huge nursery all to themselves. Do they really need the advantage of being to buy up the Haas, Pangai jrs of the world etc too?

Having said all of that it is early in the season and things will settle down. Add to that, that the Warriors sudden inability to make a first up tackle has nothing to do with inequality of cap.

This is the Warriors we are talking about. We will prep to lose by 40-60 and end up running the Storm off the park. Get hyped for next week only for the reverse to happen.

One of those was the genuine Aussie pro Keighran yesterday.

Competition for the spoon is going to be fierce this year. Every team has chalked up a win already, except the Titans and there’s a good chance they can get on the board this week 😬
