I’ve been to grand finals, test matches and state of origins, but NOTHING beats the atmosphere of a halswell/ hornby grand final at the showgrounds in the 80s.
Sorry but nga puna wai just don’t cut it- it’s a real shame.
I watched my Uncles home video of either the 84 or 85 grand final years ago involving those 2 teams. Phill Prescott, Phill Bancroft & a rampaging Greame Larsen stood out to me. Looked like a awesome atmosphere too! Cantabs had some tough summamabitches back then.

Was that when Bancroft kicked a drop goal from halfway to win it? One of the greatest days of my life that one- he was a special player.
I was lucky enough to be coached by phil Prescott when I got older- best coach I ever had.

Yup!! Won by a point. One of the best clutch drop goals I've ever seen. Can't remember the score. Was something like 20 - 21.
I've heard nothing but good things about Phil and his coaching credentials. Halswell legend, Bartercard Cup & The Kiwis assistant.
Is he still involved with the local Cantab RL scene?

I don’t think so.
Saw him at the clubrooms a couple of years ago and he wasn’t then- he’s blardy aged well- still looks the same.

I was initially in Dallington - which is not there anymore - then folks moved us to a place near rangiora, drove past your alma mater every time we went into town
Damn shame what happened to Dallington. My parents were married at St Paul's Dallington back in the summer of '69, I was there too, albeit as a fetus. My mother once said I peaked as a fetus.

Rumour has it Father Patrick was responsible for personally fathering many of his Dallingtion parishioners, so you never know, we could be brothers from another father. But that's for the religion thread.
Hahaha - I remember him too, I can't remember what order it happened in (too young at the time we left that parish) but I there there was a very 'fire and brimstone' guy that came in after Patrick ? My Ma was a protestant, so we were always a bit on the outer...
