Hey guys i remember watching sticky T.V about four months ago and they said you cant name a folder the following things com, com1 and lpt1.
if you try and rename it one of those three, it changes stright back to New Folder.

And it is true.

i wonder why microsoft did this.?¿

Just thought it was kind of werid that its true.

Dunno, there's other perks that computers have like on Microsoft Word if you type:

=Rand(39,39)

and then press enter it will have 18 pages of "the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog," which is weird as well.

Apparently those names are reserved device names from MSDOS days.
The names you listed are all port names (as far as I know) - hence they are reserved. Same goes for names like con (dos console), prn (printer) aux (auxiliary device) and nul (null).

I'm sure some of our IT experts could explain it better.. I just found that info on Google.

Yes a hangover from the DOS days. DOS meaning data operating system.

All are extensions of operating files or operation particulars. There are quite a few more as well. The new version of Windowes due out NOV 06 is called VERSA. Is a completely separate system or so they say. To use it you will need at least 1 Gig of RAM and at least a 200 G hard drive.

Is very memory reliant. However they do say that it will boot your system faster as alot of the programs that currently start at boot up will not be loaded fully until needed if ever !

Is "supposed" to be more user freindly and safer !!

Yea Right !

I'm pretty certain the new version of Windows is called Windows Vista, Sinbad. I saw a demonstration of it while at the Australian Game Development Conference in Melbourne late last year.

It's prettier than current versions, and has a few extra gimmicks, such as greater security for minors with regards to age restricted content, and the ability to watch videos on a plane that you can then turn on 3D angles, etcetera, but it still has one major flaw: it's still Windows, a Microsoft product renowned for being buggy and being hacked. So like I said, I think it's pretty, but not worth forking out a whole load of cash for prettiness. Plus, like Sinbad pointed out, it's hideously memory intensive.

As for the =Rand(39,39) command, I think that's just the programmers doing pranks, like the Disney artists who drew the word 'SEX' into The Lion King, lol!

I can't remember when the scene was, but adult Simba collapsed, and dust flew up into the air. If you watch it frame by frame, it spells the word 'SEX' extremely blatantly, before falling back down to the ground.

Shame on them, trying to taint young kid's minds with those unholy thoughts. 8)
