General Cameron George

One New Zealand Warriors CEO Cameron George has hailed a breakthrough partnership formed with the City of Logan to set up an academy and a community programme in South East Queensland.

The joint venture was unveiled today by Logan City mayor Jon Raven who announced the academy would offer an elite training and talent identification programme as well as a community initiative to help young people connect with sport and career opportunities outside football.

“This is a huge development for us as a club, a great opportunity to spread our presence into South East Queensland which is a real hotbed for rugby league talent,” said George, who was in Logan for today’s announcement.

“Our elite academy for boys and girls in Logan will provide a direct pathway to the New Zealand Warriors’ NRL and NRLW teams.

“It’s a two-pronged approach between Logan City and the One New Zealand Warriors to work with the community for better outcomes for locals though work programmes and to form a rugby league academy to create another pathway for young boys and girls to chase their dreams.

“We have a network of academies throughout New Zealand doing a terrific job and see a real opportunity with this partnership to connect with New Zealanders in Australia.

“We’re excited about what lies ahead and we really appreciate Logan City’s support.”

These guys running the Warriors are ahead of all of us. This is wayyy ahead of our thinking.

I mean I have been banging on about having good recruiters in Australia for years, but to have an academy is well ahead of that thinking.

it has chapters so can skip to the covid part.

i like to tease tracksuit cam for some of the bold claims he makes, but he's been doing a great job

What a great listen. I remember CG was criticised a lot in the early days (phone running hot/the SJ situation and all that) but listening to the Covid chat in particular changed my perspective on the bloke.

He mentioned something about the club learning resilience during that period which they carry through to this day. We’ll look back on the Covid period as a crucial time for the club that really kicked our ass into gear in my opinion.

Also - why didn’t the NRL help us out a bit during that saga? Lucky CG is well connected bruh, shit. Useless fucking comp, didn’t deserve our sacrifice but we’ll get ours back soon 🏆

Happy birthday 🎂 I see he is involved in the NZB kiwi (horse racing) hope he can multi-task for the warriors sake.
