Wright is good under the high ball, and Kata is good at scoring tries, so that edge makes sense.

Ayshford is good at getting a rookie winger to defend well, and Fus is amazing on attack. So that edge makes sense.

So I'm just waiting for Wright and Ayshford to roll out on the right and Fus to be working along side Kata and Tui on the left...

Cappy is allergic to dropping SJ.
SJ is part of the Warriors long term spine vision.
SJ played well below par last week.
If he drops SJ he loses his job the next day. Simple as that.

So his statement about perform or your out is just plain stupid...

He should be talking up pride in the jersey and shit like that after dropping Robo. At least that would make sense.

Richie McCaw is not an All Black at the moment so perhaps he could be approached to consult, along with Willie Apiata, a returned serviceman from Anzac cove about representing something bigger than yourself.

Konrad Hurrell faces an 80-minute hit-out today after being brought into the Vodafone Warriors’ Intrust Super Premiership side for their seventh-round clash against Newcastle at Mount Smart Stadium No 2 (12.00pm kick-off).

Hurrell, used off the interchange in the club’s last three NRL matches, starts in the centres with Matt Allwood joining the NRL side as 18th man for tonight’s game against the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs in Wellington.

The rest of the backline is as selected but there is some shuffling in the forwards with 21-year-old Toafofoa Sipley brought up from the bench to start at loose forward in his third match back from surgery.

It results in Ali Lauitiiti moving to the bench and captain John Palavi going into the second row with Shaun Lane.

Those attacking stats of ours...second in points only to the Cowboys, equal top tries, the most line breaks along with the Broncos.

Look at where they are on the ladder compared to us and that pretty much highlights why defense matters above all else.

So Sao must be fit, sweet. Konrad is a wasted bench spot. He's not a middle forward, so he stays in NSW Cup until he's banging on the door for a return to first grade in the centres. I can't see that happening but oh well.

Dogs by 14. The lowest number of points we've leaked in 6 games is 18, and that was against the Knights...so Dogs to score a few against us I reckon.

More points than the other team, once per week. Very technical and highly scientific with in depth research and advanced technologies underpinned by organisational philosophies to ensure you score more points than the other guys.

Hurrell, used off the interchange in the club’s last three NRL matches, starts in the centres with Matt Allwood joining the NRL side as 18th man for tonight’s game against the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs in Wellington.
I see this as a positive move. Allwood has been playing really well in NSW cup and to be honest Konnie has not grabbed his chance by the scruff of the neck and played so exceptional that the coach had to pick him.
I'm sure Konnie will get better would love to see him recapture his form of two years ago.

We need to stop the Bulldogs scoring more points than we do. Simple as that.

Thinking the other way is lazy and vain. Let them score1 and then we'll score 2. No team has ever won the comp with that philosophy.

More attack than the other team anyway.

More defence is obviously needed.

I don't care how it comes as long as our points are at least one more than the other guys.

Wellington should be sold out tonight just like mount smart should be every week I can't understand how a 1 team country doesn't have sell out crowds you'd be suprised how the warriors would play with a sell out crowd

I'm not saying that's why they are not performing because there is no sell out crowds but I believe they would play 50 % better with a huge crowd behind them

The Warriors have enjoyed some success using their front-rowers at first receiver but that tactic will come under the spotlight tonight when they take on a Canterbury Bulldogs side who have mastered the art of using multi-skilled prop James Graham as a second halfback.

Since coach Des Hasler arrived at Belmore in 2012, the Bulldogs have deviated from normal attacking structures by spreading the ball through the hands of their forwards in the middle of the field in an effort to isolate and confuse defenders.

Graham can often be sighted one off the ruck where he has three options of either carting the ball forward, shifting it on to another member of the pack, or using that runner as a decoy and playing out the back to five-eighth Josh Reynolds or halfback Moses Mbye.

The Warriors have also been employing the tactic at different stages of games so far this season, with props Ben Matulino, Charlie Gubb and Sam Lisone particularly adept at tipping the ball on to a forward runner, or finding halfback Shaun Johnson behind a decoy runner with a second-man play.

"The Bulldogs are really well known for it because they do it so well," said Gubb.

"It just takes the pressure off the halves and keeps the defence guessing and it's something that we do a lot of work on as well.

"They think we're going to take a hit-up or tip it on to another prop. But even if there's a small defender in front of the other prop you can just pass it to him and he's got a 50-50 chance of going over the top of him.

"But it just stops the defensive line from rushing up as well because they have to be accountable for us."

Warriors coach Andrew McFadden explained the tactic was the result of a pre-season focus on developing the skills of the forwards.

It is best employed on front-foot ball as they get to or near the halfway line, such as Matulino's pass to Johnson for his second-half try against Wests Tigers in round one.

However, it has also paid dividends close to the try line, with Gubb passing it off for Matulino to barge over and score a vital try against the Knights in round four.

"It's a strategy that a lot of teams use," McFadden said.

"We've obviously got a lot of skillful and mobile forwards so it's not just about passing all the time, but its bringing that deception and getting our halves doing what they're really strong at, which is running.

"We like to get our halves with the ball in their hands earlier sometimes. It's just a balance we've got to get.

"We've got some guys that are probably stronger at it than others but ... they've all got to be able to pass.

"We've spent a lot of time in the preseason working on our skills and our fundamental skills so it's something we want to utilise."

We need to play the game fast tonight, which means lots of enthusiasm and energy (I think I saw the Warriors do that one year). The Cows showed how to play a big forward pack last night; and it wasn't meeting fire with fire.

The other positive is that the Dogs are not a particularly good attacking team. I think if we score above 24 (as long as some of them are early) we win this one.

To me, how we play tonight will depend on two things

  1. Energy at the start
  2. Whether Perenara/ill-discipline takes us out of the game in the first ten minutes (and exposes the Warriors soft underbelly)

Nice call guys on Sao for Hurrell, and in the Team List forum too.

Now if you could just let us know the result, I can decide whether to bother watching or not...
