I've noticed that there are people blaming Hollywood/ violent movies for the incident. Thoughts?

People always blame hollywood. moral panic anyone?

Killers are not made by films, they are already killers. Films just give them options.

and add into the mix; military grade assault rifles, 100 round drum magazines, smoke grenades, and semi-automatic handguns - all available from your local friendly Walmart (with an acceptable form of photo ID).

Yanks and their weapons culture is fucking sickening. Sure enough, a madman like James Holmes is going to go out a kill a bunch a people regardless, but imagine what the damage would have been like had he only been able to arm himself with a .22 rifle or knife.

And the common reaction to incidents like these is for, otherwise normal, individuals to go out and arm themselves (as evidenced by local gun sales soaring in the aftermath of the Aurora Massacre). I mean, how crazy is this?!

I agree the gun culture and the bending over for the NRA there is appalling. A politician came out saying that there would be far less deaths, if more people in the cinema had guns on them. They need to kill that 2nd amendment, but noone in that country will ever have the balls to, or get elected on that premise.

Which is logically insane, for a number of reasons. It would have been chaos in that theatre. With the smoke, movie still running, semi-automatic gunfire, and virtually no lighting - even if an armed individual had of been able to verify the source of the attack, a) Holmes was wearing military grade body armour, and b) what are the chances of another innocent person being in the line of the crossfire? And this is, essentially, what gun loving Yanks don't seem to understand, had the audience been armed (and while cannot prove this, I'm 99% positive), the body count would have been even higher.

Furthermore, apparently, Cinemas across the US are considered gun-free zones, so even those who owned guns would not have legally been able to carry them in the theatre anyhow. The next you'll hear is the NRA, and their puppet politicians, lobbying for even less gun control, and the right for individuals to carry their guns, concealed, into a places like cinemas and supermarkets, etc. Bizzarro-land over there!
