He sure was. Barba was set to kick the season launch off on Wednesday.

I'm adding updates at the bottom of that as they come in. Its huge news over here obviously.

The season kickoff curse huh.....

Sad for Ben, hope he can make it back.

Well done by the Bulldogs to get on the front foot handling it.

Yeah its been good by the Bulldogs. Although I would say they should have said everything straight away rather than waiting for this press conference in a little over an hour from now. A lot of speculation happening right now.

Big news, especially on the eve of our NNRL bidding.

About to head over to the kennel to see what their reaction is.

Saw this when looking for something else on the Herald, shocking (though not as shocking as the poor woman who was hit by a train this morning). Other task now forgotten for the moment.

Good move by club to get this out there, as the dust will settle sooner rather than later once everyone has had a good go at it. Hardest part is admitting you have a problem, so good luck to Barba hope to see him back soon.

With all the uncertainty around organized crime and sport in Australia lately, the Dogs will need to make it absolutely clear what the issues with Barba are, or the speculation could become deafening.

It's happening now.

GreenBerg: "You can talk about gambling, alcohol, simple ettiquette, personal relationships"

Also that he won't be playing come start of the season, and this isn't a police matter.

That's essentially the crux of it. I'm sure the full press conference will be posted here after.

Hopefully it not being a police matter is accurate, as that should rule out anything criminal, and he can get back to playing the game as soon as possible, because that kid is some sort of talent.

Just watched the press conference. Added notes on my site.

It sounds like Barba is dealing with personal problems he has had for a long time. The clubs giving him support. Its NOT a legal matter, at worst he breached the clubs code of conduct.

Whatever, it is a shame, he comes accross as a decent young bloke. Learning the other side of fame. Hope he sorts himself soon

Seems like the club is quite supportive, and is handling the issues the right way.

Todd Greenberg said:
"We thought termination was the easy way out and simply throwing him out on the street is not the way we do our business. We thought we had a duty of care to try to help him. If he helps himself, he will be a Bulldogs player for a long time. Be he needs to help himself. What we're trying to do is put people around him and support around him, to help him individually off the field. That's the sort of club we are."

Very good player Ben Barba, hopefully he gets himself sorted, no different to Locke when he was in a bit of strife here, young guys different circumstances and scenarios but the game's better with these class players genuine good guys and characters like Barba involved.
