I was only joking!!!!!
I know, but it made me think why are we talking about Cricket getting a new venue, paid for by the govt when all other sports have to combine and make do? If they are so enamoured with eden park and wont give it up. Then leave them with it. and the debt, I mean once upon it was an acceptable pitch for cricket, lend them the odd wrecking crane and it can be again.

Not surprised with this latest development seeing as the last time this was brought up the Eden Park Trust Board was screaming poor me over not being able to afford lighting or new ground. Looking at the improvements to the ground from the 1987 World Cup to the 2011 World Cup they would of likely only got the basics done and struggled to run it anyway.

If they want more money or the Council to take on the loans surely there should be discussions on the ownership. The way things are going the Government and the Council will have spent enough money to buy the place.

Also not surprised this has come up again seeing the articles about speedway and Western Springs recently. Firstly there was their lease running out with no where to go and then like the Warriors at Mt Smart they got some more time.

If sports are going to have to move grounds the first thing that needs to be done is find develop a new facility for the first sport. Get speedway in a place where they are happy to move from Western Springs which allows it to be developed for cricket.

I would not be surprised if they try to move the Warriors to Eden Park...again.

That wouldn't surprise me either. Can see in some of the article now that it reads like a stay of execution with the current lease before the talk of moving starts again. Can't see anyone with the vision to get their act together to get a new stadium started by then.

Or maybe the government will tell them to concentrate on infrastructure instead. This could happen.

I wonder if Eric is still keen to invest in a new stadium?
I see a quote that he has explained his still opulent lifestyle as "I got some money from my mother". I wonder how much money he ever really had. The article also described how it was important for Watson to show up on the rich list. Trump is the same.

He’s keen as. As long as he can use Owen Glenn’s money.
I now you are joking, but honestly why do people think Eric Watson is funny?

Eden Parking is getting $60m from the council. They're currently arguing with the council saying the $10m on top of the $50m should be a grant and not a interest free loan. Unbelievable

How the hell are we as rate payers funding this?

I suppose their is no other alternative that is currently affordable/viable/achievable

Doesn’t matter if it’s a loan or a grant because the EPTB can’t pay it’s existing loans. Council may as well just give them a grant for the whole lot because, unless Eden Park is ever sold, they’ve never seeing that money again.

How and why do the Council get sucked in by this. I suppose the easiest money to spend is someone elses.

Why doesn’t the EPTB just go to their bank, ASB, for another loan?

Oh, that’s right... they can’t even meet the repayments of their existing loan to them.

And, the EPTB would be in even deeper cat poo if the government had written of the loan they’d given them after the changes for the RWC.

Guess Goff has decided to use part of the $78 mil. he’s gauged from Auckland car owners through the Fuel Tax.

Phil Goff has a tough job.
Any changing of the guard , with new leaders will set the projects back to 3 years .
I would like to see positive policies besides bagging Goff.
