Football has been the dominant sport in my region for 10 years now. It's not exactly the demographic you'd expect either with low incomes and a lot of social problems. With the World Cup and now Auckland winning the A league rugby is under serious threat from football
Yeah my wife switched my son from rugby at a young ageFootball has been the dominant sport in my region for 10 years now. It's not exactly the demographic you'd expect either with low incomes and a lot of social problems.
Parents don't want their young ones getting smashed anymore.
I think A league is always going to struggle with the fact that this is equvlent to EFL league one/two in england. So unlike rugby league/union you'll never be watching the best play. You see the exact same stuff in the US. Far, far more kids play football (Soccer) over there too but a lot more people still watch NFL. Where the MLS gets 100-300k viewers per match, NFL is still getting 18.7m.With the World Cup and now Auckland winning the A league rugby is under serious threat from football
Awesome effort. Let's hope we can do it this year. It would be like pulling off the double.
Im not sure if itβs common knowledge but Auckland FC do have a salary cap dispensation for being the new franchise. The problem in A league is after 2 years when the dispensation falls off teams fall off too (wanderers and MU have had this issue)Congrats to Auckland FC. Great to see them doing so well since they entered the comp. Yet to watch one of their games yet though.
IMO the NRL is the pinnacle of Aus/NZ pro sports comp but winning the A league comp in their second year(?) Is still an awesome achievement. Best wishes to them and their fans.

Question - since they play at Mt Smart, do they have many fans that support both Auckland FC and Warriors and attend both their games?
I get that and was thinking when I wrote it someone likely would understand what I meant. The Warriors winning the NRL and the Kiwis winning the World Cup is pulling off the double.
A Wahs win after Auckland FC winning is more like you winning the powerball (Wahs) after already winning the raffle for the meat pack at the local footy club (Auckland FC).
