General Asi vs CHT Thread

Mr Brownstone

I’ll check some more but my observation is Chanel Harris-Tavita is to slow for a 6 (hence the line break, tackle breaks and tries are non existent) and is a 7. The problem is Shaun Johnson is our first choice number 7 and we are unbalanced with the both of them in the team at once.

Chanel Harris-Tavita would not make any of those top teams as a 6.
As a half, either 6 or 7, I think he’d probably make the run on side right now for the Titans, Bulldogs and Knights, possibly the Dragons and at a stretch the Rabbits.

I was at the game and very close to the action and one thing that stood out straight away was his size.
He’s a big guy.
Yep, easily has the build to play centre or fullback but most definitely has the skills to excel in the halves AND I’d have to say (albeit after seeing only one game, so risking getting ahead of myself) he has more strike in attack than Chanel.
Super impressive debut.
In saying that, unless Asi makes it absolutely impossible for Browny not pick him, then Chanel deserves to slot straight back in to 6.
But imo Asi is the goods.

Only cavet there is that Walker is the only one with a similar amount of games played (first grade total) to Chanel Harris-Tavita surely.
Hes also played a lot of games not as a half, and hes had KODI to rub off, hardly Luke Keary. What I like is that we dont have to hide him in the D line. Obviously he needs to keep improving a bit, mostly taking the line on inside the 15m. Perhaps bring back his pet play the scorpion kick (haha)

Lets judge him end of next year after 2 years with some quality halves like Shaun Johnson, Walsh, Volkman etc, Im sure he will continue to grow.

The others are all far more experienced halves in the sense of the game, and have been playing in top tier teams.

If we compared Chanel Harris-Tavita to teams around/below us it'd be interesting. Up for some more stats wizards rage ? I'm watching telly and cbf using the old noggin' 🤣
Another 2 from struggling teams. Both better in attack but similar.

Chanel Harris-Tavita 7 games - 0 tries; 3 try assists; average 62m; 88% tackles; tackle breaks 0.9; line breaks 0

Burton (Bulldogs) - 8 games - 0 tries; 2 try assists; average 66m; 85% tackles; tackle breaks 1.6; line breaks 0.1

Clifford (Knights) - 8 games - 2 tries; 0 try assists; average 66m; 85% tackles; tackle breaks 1.4; line breaks 0.1

See the bulldogs and knights comparative stats. He wouldn’t make it as a 6.

As a 7, maybe…

Chanel Harris-Tavita versus a selection of number 6’s across the competition. Red highlights if their stats are worse than Chanel Harris-Tavita; green if they are better

Chanel Harris-Tavita 7 games - 0 tries; 3 try assists; average 62m; 88% tackles; tackle breaks 0.9; line breaks 0

Old man Foran - 8 games - 2 tries; 4 try assists; average 93m; 88% tackles; tackle break 2.6; line breaks 0.3 - better in every area

Matt Moylan - 8 games - 1 try; 4 try assists; average 80m; 80% tackles; tackle break 1.9; line breaks 0.1 - better in every area except defending

Luai - 8 games - 3 tries; 5 try assists; average 60m; 86% tackles; tackle break 2.4; line breaks 0.4 - clearly better at attacking

Sam Walker - 8 games; 2 tries; 3 try assists; average 81m; 81% tackles; tackle break 3; line breaks 0.5. Better in every area except defending.

Chanel Harris-Tavita is a marginally better defender than most other 6’s. But he’s way below par on attack which is the whole point of a half. He’s not a 6.
Why don't you put 40/20s in? We won a game on the back of a 40/20 Chanel Harris-Tavita done. Very hard to be objective if all the data isn't there.

Well let’s begin judging our halves after a few more games however once again I think you are getting way ahead of reality on Chanel Harris-Tavita. I don’t think he’s even approaching an average half in the comp at this point, not even close. He’s had about as many attacking stats this season as an elite half can produce in less than 80 minutes. Let’s hope he continues to improve and develop into a quality spine player - however I honestly think your views (and you aren’t alone) on Chanel Harris-Tavita are possibly even more absurd at this point than the subject of this thread.
Yes Chanel Harris-Tavita has a lot of room for growth offensively but a lot of people are not taking into account his defense and i dont know why. Hes growing on offense but is already a great defender, maybe the best or one of the best 6s at it in the comp and that has to count for something. I feel he is far underestimated as evidenced by this thread.

I get what you are saying but i think if you swapped Chanel Harris-Tavita into those teams and their structures he would look a lot better. Keep in mind the warriors are one of the worst attacking teams in the comps.

Just look at what sos looked like when he was filling in for cleary, he looked way better than when he was steering our dumpster fire around.

Hes had 6 games as 5/8th and aside from Tries hes close to Sam Walker with 8 games.

So how about we count how many tries Chanel Harris-Tavita has saved on defense instead of scored? Hes put some truly huge men into dazed and confused mode this year. But this is one example of a try saver
