General Are we forgetting about Toddy?

Isn't he off contract this year too?

Or is it next year? If its this year, no wonder we are looking for another winger. I don't think it is necesarily to replace Ah Van but that we need another back up waiting in the wings. You would think we would have enough in our back yard though don't we?

For anyone not knowing what I am talking about - in the latest TV One News Video while they are talking about the signing of Wade, they also said we are searching for a 5/8 and a new winger. It got me thinking that Toddy is off this year isn't he?

Not really. I didn't think he was a bad signing. I think he just needs to find his form again.

But that is why it got me wondering why we are searching for another winger? Surely if we have Ah Van, Manu and Toddy and then if need be we just go to our development players like Vuna.

Why do we need to search for another winger? Maybe TVNZ just got it wrong again.

I think toddy is a slightly more athletic version of Tony Martin that can't kick, and with less talent for distrabution which is why he shouldn't play centre

Toddy looks like hes been eating slow pills all year.

todd only scored so many tries last year because of his ability to be in the right place at the right time, apart from positional play i don't think he really has much of any other attributes, slow, no footwork, about 24kg's. ah vans the man now

Being in the right place at the right time is about 80% of being a winger in my opinion on attack and defence.

Lol, exactly. And in my experience too.

If your not in the right place at the right time then you are simply doing nothing for the team :]

Yeah, I'm sure I saw footage on the news of him training last week and thought he must be pretty close to being fully recovered.

I'm all for the kid to get fit and push for selection. Frankly, the more competition the better.

Byrne was never up to his best this year but he was a solid option last year and was a finisher. That is what you need on the wing. We are just lucky tha we have had Ah Van and Manu to be there while he has lost his form.

He will do it tough trying to get his place back but I'm all for the guy giving it a crack.

I would doubt that toddys contract wil be renewed at the end of 07, i have a feeling he will struggle to cement a spot next year.

Fingers crossed someone descent comes on the market.

Given he scored 14 tries last year including a streak of 7 in 7 games, including decisive match winning plays notably against Melbourne off the top of my head - no, I don't think he is a bad signing whatsoever.

Poor form this year perhaps, but we're being very fickle minded to forget his 2005 form which was terrific.

While Toddy hasn't been in great form this year I still think Ah Van has a loooooooooooong way to go before he cements his wing spot. I don't really see why so many people rate this guy so highly, I haven't seen him do much special for him to be in such high regard and because of this I fully understand why the Warriors are looking for another winger.

Yeah, IMO, was Warriors player of the year last year, and Dale Budge thought so too. Scored plenty of tries and was always threatening down the wing, he was a great signing, his form has just dropped off this year and then he got injured.

yeah loss of form and then being injured has meant he has lost his place. still very useful player to have. not sure if he really is a centre but out on the wing he was awesome last year.

You can also point to it as being a loss of confidence more than anything. He went through something similar at the Chooks, but prior to that was a fantastic servant of their club in the limited opportunities he got.

Todd Byrne is at his best when he's supporting up the middle of the ruck, working on set plays in particular following in field kicks.

He's been hammered (and rightly so because it will probably be a crucial play in the 2006 wash up) for the missed opportunity against Canberra, but we should not forget his efforts in 2005.

I personally think Todd Byrne WILL bounce back and be resigned beyond 2007, he's another Luck, Gatis, Rovelli, a somewhat unsung hero. If he isn't resigned, 2005 was a fantastic season for him and he should be remembered for that.
