TeamList Dragons vs Warriors - [Round 7, 2024]

Man there is a bit to unpack there - why is CHT out?

Zyon Maiu’u is definitely playing, no two ways about it.

So do you carry Pompey or Ali?

The easy decision is Pompey and it wouldn't be wrong. Maybe though this is a good game to get Ali on the bench - will support whatever way they go.

Ridiculous that we are so depleted and the choice is still safe in Pompey or Ali!!

Outside backs aren't getting injured, plenty of centre depth still. Everywhere else is struggling.

If Dragons can't beat us now, they never will. It's imperative we start fast tomorrow because we're essentially playing this game without a proper bench. Dragons bench, though equally as perplexing, at least has three middle forwards on the bench. Can see them having some momentum in this game when AFB/Barney go off. Probably need both to play 60-70 minutes tomorrow.

We are not a fast starting team though. We seem to play dog shit for the first ten minutes while we sniff out the other team and get surprised into mistakes by their unexpected line speed or some unexpected defensive structures we weren't expecting, and then after 15 minutes we settle in and always start to dominate. However St George are going to front load blitz their energy into matching us in the first 25 minutes then having their bench win the middle period and then hanging on for dear life when we bring our big guns back on in the last twenty minutes.
Losing Jazz really impacts us in this game. He was emergency hooker cover and an energizer during the middle part of the game.
Despite being a million times better than St George the final straw of losing CHT off our bench is really starting to tip this game into being a crap shoot.

Could be the switcheroo of the season if it comes off. And if Zyon Maiu’u busts up the middle and offloads to Roach for the winning try, this could well be the best week of our lives.
I think Webster should just name his teams ahead of time instead of cloak and dagger
None of the exeperienced star coaches hide the team until minutes before kick off
I don't really think the opposition will bother to prepare much for a debutant whether they are learn they are playing 6 days or 6 minutes in advance of the game.

Well I think he did a similar thing for our other rookie debutants, maybe to shield them from outside pressure, it's like his webshield. Whatever he's doing, it works, and I'm pretty sure we're seeing a coaching mastermind at work.

We can start fast when we need to. In some of our games (ie sharks, raiders), we dominated the early field position and shot out to an early lead, even if we let them back into the game later on. It's even more imperative in this game to do so which will give us a buffer to counter any momentum change during the middle third when AFB/Barney come off. Our starting 13 is much stronger than theirs, so I back our ability to do so. We need to cut out our errors from last week though.

They will try to run Sua at SJ all game, just like Manly tried to run Olakuatu at him last week. So it's imperative that our forwards have his back just like they did last week. The number of times that Ford and Barney sat Olakuatu on his ass last week was really amazing: he didn't have a single line break from memory. Sua is far less imposing in my view.

Having watched a couple of dragons games recently, I've noticed that for some reason the dragons seem to be completely ignoring Ravalawa's side and focusing their attack solely on Lomax's edge. Seems odd given that Ravalawa + Suli are huge, imposing outside backs that can finish when given the opportunities. Neither of these two have a single try in 2024. Many of their tries this year come from kicks to Lomax in the air. So RTS has to look out for that when he marks him tomorrow.

If I were coach I would start Ale at prop and play Barnett 50 minutes through the middle of the game when their bench is on,

The major concern for me is cover for Egsn. DH is such an important spine position that cover for it has to be planned for. I was thinking csn Capewell do that 2nd Row/DH role like Sironen last year he has the skill and versatility to do so, and would be a better fit for the selected Bench to replace him. Either that or bring a specialist DH like Roache onto the Bench.

CHT picked up a leg injury at training during the week.
