Mal Meninga set to be appointed South Sydney intermin coach to replace Jason Demetriou

Gee, that's not going to help them. Good SOO and Australia coach with top talent available to him. Not a club coach. Might be a good person to have around the club with a half decent interim coach though.

I wonder if its more of a the season is a write off so instead of damaging any assistant or even young coaches, they have at the club, they bring in someone else and just rebuild for next when you appoint someone new.

Might be. Though that's only going to work if they can get a Bennett or some other highly regarded coach you would think. Mal has mana but a week to week club coach he is not.

Doesn't need to be.
Get rid of the deadwood and pave the way for someone new.
Bennett won't be going there with the current roster. Wayne will only go to a club he thinks can win a comp.

they have an aging roster that isn't producing results anymore, so some sort of rebuild has to happen. As for coaches Bennett is the obvious choice, but you would really want to do your homework and find the next webby. Bennett only has so many years left.

Now that he’s been vindicated in everything he said and his relationship with Crowe surely has him at the front of the queue if he can continue his good start to his coaching career. Could be a bit new to it to be considered next year?
Crowe didn't back him up last year and there are a few others in the club that would have to either apologize or step aside.

Bennett as coach and Sammy B as assistant could work for a couple of seasons then SB takes over.

This season is a write off and the longer they leave a permanent decision on the coach the longer it is until they can fix things. Zero point in someone like Mal coming in and making decisions on players and recruitment that may not suit the next coach. And he's not the person you would want doing that anyway IMO. If Mal does take the role this season you can expect maybe some short term motivational change in performance but that's about it. South's top 8 aspirations this season are over.

They are going to need a complete rebuild over the next few seasons.

Rumours too than Damian Cook is off to the dragons too. Scott Fulton just started at dragons too and he signed Schuster at manly, that’s where the rumour of Schuster to dragons is doing the rounds after it was titans before. Flanagan is right in the player market apparently, wouldn’t write him off to do with dragons what he did at sharks. Players like Cook who’ve been trying at souths might have had a guts full?

Yes but making a good fist of coaching Warrington. They are 2nd in Super League.

Article this week quoted anonymous powerbrokers keen on him to get atleast 2 years head coaching experience with them
Yes obviously. Souths need someone now. They're not going wait 2 years

Yea Meninga for the rest of the year seems to have been rubber stamped.

Surely they are gunning for Bennett on a 2 or 3 year deal after.

Bennett could usher Burgess in afterwards.

What complicates this is the growing rumours that Bennet is interested in Parramatta should Brad Arthur get the flick

I get the feeling there is a bit of the been there, done that with South's for Bennett. They also need a pretty significant rebuild. Eels on the other hand just needs a few tweaks and his direction. Challenge of giving the former great club an overdue premiership and another notch on his belt?

Why on earth do they want to sign Scott Fulton? He and Benji agreed to walk outside into the carpark for a fist fight and actually it went to the extent of the two of them walking into the carpark before other colleagues stood between them and wouldn't let the fight occur.
Why would you employ someone like that> He snipered down idea after idea at the Tigers except his own, and now his big move at St George is to get Schuster?

Meninga’s main job would be to get Mitchell to step up or push him out.

That needs addressing before any rebuild can happen and Meninga is one of the few with the mana to sort him out.
Exactly what I meant.
Not too many potential coaches (especially Bennett) will be interested with Latrell still there.
Mal would have to turn him around or give him the arse.
Nobody has even mentioned Ben Hornby.

Usually these post match threads die off as everyone moves off to the next game. Souths are such a basket case at the moment we really did a number on them.

All this talk on their performance on the weekend they were up against the mighty Warriors.
