In honour of the Anzac Round, the New Zealand Warriors will be donning a special warmup tee for their forthcoming NRL clash against Newcastle at Apollo Projects Stadium in Christchurch on Anzac Day. This special tee went on sale from Thursday, April 10, and is designed to pay tribute to past and present Anzac soldiers.
The warmup tee design holds a significant emotional reference to the First World War Anzac Day campaign, a time when numerous New Zealand and Australian soldiers sacrificed their lives in the battle at Gallipoli. The camouflage design is rich in symbolism, with the New Zealand and Australia flags displayed on the left sleeve, and the New Zealand Defence Forces (NZDF) badge on the right sleeve, honouring all armed forces.
Further, the red and black cuffs on the sleeves pay homage to the Canterbury region. The front of the shirt prominently features the red poppy, a powerful symbol of remembrance, with maps of New Zealand and Australia placed just below the neckline on the back.
