I think if Mr G Dalton threatens to take the next America's Cup overseas, Mr & Miss & Ms & Mrs & They N Z Taxpayer should threaten to not give them any more money. If they're going to hold the regatta in, say, Spain, than the Spanish Taxpayers can fund Team "New Zealand".

Well done Team NZ on sucessfully defending the cup... good effort Prada.
So if Dalton and co go overseas to defend the cup.. Then no more tax payer funding please, got more important issues at home to worry about. Besides some other countries economy will benefit not nz..

Read a report today about Isle of White or Isle of Man with just ETNZ & Ineos fighting it out.NZ Govt already facing veiled threats.I say job well done but throw some of your own cash at it & not mine. If G.D can afford a $3.7 million boat sponsor it himself or at least contribute

What's needed is more competitors = more TV viewers = more sponsorship dollars. The LV cup was a joke this year, the decision to go mono-hull certainly didn't help and using covid is lazy because everything really needed to be in place before covid was a thing.
Glad we retained the cup but it got sweet F.A. coverage here in Oz and I'm not saying the racing wasn't exciting.

So the PM has already thrown some bucks into the pot if the next regatta is held here.

Wish she would do the same for child poverty and the homeless. Oh wait, no economic benefit there.

Other than locals flooding the viaduct and the odd superyacht that met the weird IMNZ criteria, how much of an economic benefit was this regatta to the country considering no one from outside was allowed in to spend their filthy lucre.

It's such a stupid concept that the UK challengers could potentially have a 1-on-1 America's Cup in the UK.

Imagine if the Warriors challenged the Storm for their NRL title, and dictated it to be played at Mt Smart.

On top of that idiocy, the UK team didn't even fire a shot in the LV Cup final.

I sincerely hope that if any taxpayer money is spent on the next one, that it is firstly held in NZ, and secondly, that they make some changes to the format so that more challengers participate and those challengers base themselves in NZ for a decent length of time, like they did back in 1999/2000? & 2003.

The idea for the future competition to happen in the UK is from GD Must be a back hander involved 😀

Any links to prove your post. Personally I enjoyed the competition and the boats but the amount of money 💰 involved is ridiculous . Don't think that you can say She has already thrown money into the pot if it's held here when that decision has not been made

A good touch from Burling thanking iain at the end of the race today, really shows the humbleness of the whole set up. Was also nice to hear spithill share the same thoughts and congratulate burling. This kind of sportsmanship, as hard as it is to suck up in the moment, is what seperate Nz and Australia from the rest of the international sporting world. What an America’s cup and what a time to show the world how sport should be showed to the world!
