Brisbane Broncos coach Wayne Bennett has granted Adam Blair permission to negotiate with rival clubs with the Warriors favourites to sign the Kiwis captain.

The 31-year-old front-rower is under contract with the Broncos until the end of next season but has been linked to a move to the Warriors since May, while St George Illawarra are also keen on signing him.

The Whangarei-born forward is close friends with Warriors coach Stephen Kearney and the Auckland-based club is in the market for experienced big men to boost their forward stocks.

The Broncos are understood to be willing to let him go if he receives an offer of a long-term contract, with the Warriors reportedly prepared to sign him on a four-year deal.

"At the moment he's contracted to the Broncos for next year, but if he gets a release from them there's a good chance he may end up with us," said Warriors managing director Jim Doyle.

Blairs last contract and he has a club that is desperate for a signing for both roster and PR reasons. He will be milking it for everything. At least we will have some mongrel

32 at the start of next season on a 4 year deal. Don't know about that.

It is funny that the Bulldogs fans want to dump all their older players while we're clamoring for experience.

Blair will always have that bit of mongrel in him. Am not too fussed on the signing though

Isn't the value of the Blair signing relative to cost? Long term guaranteed medium income may be more appealing to him than short-term high income.

For example, which would be worse - 2 years for the Warriors @ $700k pa (mo' money for him) or 4 years @ $400k pa (longevity in the NRL and a chance to set up stable roots for him and his family)?

I'm not suggesting the figures are remotely like this, just pointing out that the figures are something we don't know, so who are we to speculate?

I get the distinct impression that this is a club that does not pay overs anymore. Something that has hurt for the last few months, but a huge move ahead in the long run

This could well be JD's plan all along. And one obviously you would have to keep up your sleeve in order not tip off other clubs.

He's moved on Mutts and Lolo, and most likely Hoff and Gubb.

Tigers most likely paid overs for those two, and he's probably banking on a better, cheaper replacement for Hoff, and a better replacement for Gubb for the same $$.

If it works out, JD is the current World NRL poker champ! Kept his poker face up, bluffed early, and now moving all in with the best hand.

So Blair > Hoff. And also maybe a new Captain to, takes pressure off RTS.

Still need another forward to replace Lisone / Vere.

And a new gun hooker..

Roache is a keeper, give him another season backing up Luke then watch and enjoy..
Hopefully. I don't think we can sign anyone better then our current stocks anyway.

But I don't think Luke is up to play 80 anymore, and would probably be a better 14 now

Some of you really really want to believe Jimbo is special don't you.
