So who do we think will play first trial?
I assume it'll be
1. Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad
2. Kosi
3. Montoya Pompey
4. Vailea
5. Dallin Watene-Zelezniak (forgot he out for All stars) Montoya
6. Te Maire Martin
7. Shaun Johnson
8. Addin Fonua-Blake
9. Egan
10. Tohu Harris
11 Barnett
12 Niukore
13 Curran

14 Walker Metcalf
15 Ale
16 Lussick
17 Sironen.

While I know we probably want to give a few other guys a try to see how they go I think this will be a big test for Webster to see how this team performs with Te Maire Martin and Shaun Johnson partnering in the halves with Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad at the back to see what the ideal spine is for the season. Tohu Harris can do a job at prop but likely to be playing more of a lock style with Niukore and Barnett switching between edges and middle share the workload.

Also feel like this team has good balance in experience/younger guys. No big threats but I think people could be underestimating how big Te Maire Martin could be for us too and Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad showed in 2019 he can definitely be a first grade fullback.

Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad overall wins in NRL games played is 58%, Te Maire Martin is lower at 43% but in his last year with Broncos was 61%, Niukore also a 60% win stat in games over his career. These guys are big effort players who want to be here too and I think while we haven't recruited any big names we're recruited solid hard workers with a bit more fight in them. Can't wait to see how we go on Thursday!

Interesting team, quite a few younger faces that I wasn’t expecting. I assume Paul Roache is Nate’s lil bro? Ben Farr looks to be a young Aussie fullback.

I wonder if Berry has a niggle or is already locked in for round 1.
Yes, he is the younger Roache. Plays Five Eighth. Was at the Raiders a few years ago.

Ben Farr plays similarly to Walsh in the one highlights clip I saw

Four of the One New Zealand Warriors’ new signings have been named in the club’s first side of the season for Thursday night’s NRL Preseason Challenge encounter with Wests Tigers at Mount Smart Stadium (8.00pm kick-off).
Former Kiwi Te Maire Martin is paired in the halves with Luke Metcalf, who has joined the club from Cronulla Sutherland while ex-St George Illawarra Dragons Brayden Wiliame and Jackson Ford are also included.

In his first match as head coach Andrew Webster has all four of the club’s development players with Demitric Sifakula in the second row and Zyon Maiuu, Ali Leiataua and Jacob Laban on an 11-man bench.
The two most experienced players named are winger Marcelo Montoya (90 appearances) and prop Bunty Afoa (108 games).

Other players with NRL experience are Viliami Vailea, Edward Kosi, Freddy Lussick and Tom Ale.

Looks like our starting and bench forwards are all resting and it is a shoot out with our wingers and our centre with probably only one of each able to snag the last spots for round 1.

Also interesting that Te Maire Martin and Metcalf are playing together. Is Volkman injured or is he preferred to start round 1? Or is it another shootout with Te Maire Martin and Metcalf to partner Shaun Johnson?

Is Sironen injured or has he done enough to beat Ford to a bench spot?

I can't wait!!

Warriors addiction is real!

I think Volkman is still injured but close to coming back.

First trial team is always B team with the odd NRL player who needs a run. Never can read anything into it apart from where the coach looks to be developing players. Last trial is where the moneys at...

Moala Graham-Taufa is a good one to have.

Roosters had him in their top 30 as an 18 year old a couple years ago.

Released by them and the Eels in the last year though, so not sure what his go is. Potentially keen to just get back home post covid.

1 TAINE TUAUPIKI - Can't wait to see him in action. I don't think he is in the mixer for a top thirty spot. But he should give it 100%
2 MARCELO MONTOYA
3 BRAYDEN WILIAME - I found some 2019 highlights where he had a real turn of pace. Then I found some 2022 highlights where he looked like a cart horse. Still was he injured? Could he be in the mixer to claim the free centre position. Very interested to see him ply. Can't wait,
4 VILIAMI VAILEA - is he bigger than last year. Has he bulked up. Is he faster. Has his defence improved. Can't wait to see him.
5 EDWARD KOSI
6 LUKE METCALF - Just how fast is he and how does he look in the halves. I would have put him at 7 and Te Maire Martin at 6 as Luke can kick more than Te Maire Martin can. But that is ok. Looking forward to seeing Luke play.
7 TE MAIRE MARTIN - want to watch his defence.
8 BUNTY AFOA
9 FREDDY LUSSICK
10 TOM ALE
11 JACKSON FORD - how much of an enforcer is this guy. Is he behind in the pecking order that Bayley Sironen.
12 DEMITRIC SIFAKULA
