General 2023 Warriors Draw

So haven't been folllowing this thread closely but just doing the weekly thread scheduling and got up to round 8 when we play Storm on round 9 TLT!?? How tf does that work? Will they still announce a round 9 team by 5pm then play their round 8 game? Will they be allowed to delay the announcement or be given a pass to announce a 30 man team to cover for any possible injuries? Next year ill we play on the Wednesday???

Basically the NRL is telling us we can get fucked. Storm get a bye following this, if we did too then fair enough. But obviously not.

Next 5:

Bulldogs (h)
Sharks
Knights
Cows (h)
Storm

Preseason we would have been targeting the bulldogs and knights. Now I could see us in the hunt for 4/5…
5/5 … storm have been awful so far, not sure when Munster is back but the only one performing so far for them is grant - you’d hope we’d show up for MSS opener next week, sharks will be tough but winnable, knights suck, and the cows at home …

Next Sunday in Akld:

Warriors vs Bulldogs

And starting 30 mins earlier ( or so):

Blues vs Force

Warriors will win this battle ( crowd wise)

Seems crazy to me we play 2 teams twice in first 7 rounds - knights and cowboys, hopefully we're able to beat them both again.

I think we play only 7 teams in the first 11 rounds (playing Knights, Dogs, Cowboys and Roosters twice).

Will be good to get some variety in the back end of the season...

The next 7 games are critical in the context of our season. If we win 4 out of the next 7, we have an excellent shot of being in the mix for the top 6 (or better) in 2023.

Round 5 - Sharks - AWAY
TOUGH. We win this, it sends a proper message to the comp that the sleeping giant is awakening. Could be a defining moment in our history, especially as we are missing key men. Webby talking a big game and marking this down as the biggest round for all clubs. You can tell he’s earmarked this as the round as the most important one. I’m picking we bury the demons of 2022 and win in a huge boil over.

Round 6 - Knights - AWAY
expect troops back on deck for this one - hopefully we ain’t too banged up from shark park. This is a winnable game and we can and should beat these guys who won’t make the 8 this year.

Round 7 to 10 - HELL MONTH

Round 7 - COWS at home
We beat them at their place; last year they took revenge. We have to turn Mt Smart into a fortress. Tough side but weather is getting colder and wetter. This has to be another game we target. Payten maybe struggling with 2nd year syndrome? Aging team… opportunity.

But then we get:

Round 8: STORM away for Anzac Day annual beat down
Ordinarily, we’d get toweled up. 70 points a year or so ago? Storm are not what they were and still vulnerable. Opportunity to bury some more ghosts? Or am I being WAYYYYY too optimistic?

And for fun, next up after a 5 day turn around, we get…

Round 9 - ROOSTERS at home
Crooks…. I mean chooks are always tough. Winnable - but both teams on a 5 day turnaround. Tough.

Round 10 - magic round - AWAY v PANTHERS.
FFS. Tough. Especially after our run of games.

FOLLOWED BY:

Round 11 - DOGS - Away
Friday night football in Sydney… has to be a game we target.

This is a very tight comp and this run of games is up there with the hardest challenge any team will have this year. All very tough teams.

This run will define our season. Give me 4 wins, and if we head to the bye week with a record of 7 and 4, I’ll be very happy. Ecstatic even! Got to aim to beat cows, dogs and knights. Then we need to beat one (or more) of panthers, storm, roosters or sharks to really be a contender.

We get to 7 and 4, then we can start dreaming of a top 6 finish…

the fun starts this weekend.

Bro your bang on if we get 7-4 before the break it would be huge. 15 wins would probably get you in top 8 and with our backend byes it would shape up for a good run in to the finish line.

Starting to see injuries now that’s the only concern but otherwise doable with the coach and systems we have atm.

13 wins is usually enough for a top 8 finish, sometimes 12 with a good for and against. However there are now 17 teams competing for the 8 spots so that will change things slightly.

Do they still produce the best and worst draws on the NRL site like they use to?

Damn we got a hard period coming after the knights. Then it continues after a bye with just as hard a draw. We have top 10 and top 4 contenders twice and have bottom 6-8 mostly only once this year.

But the way I figure it, if we can beat these top teams consistently and be in the top 8, we will have the best preparation for winning big games.

Unsure if this has been picked up by anyone else, don't have time to read through.

The next two games against Knights and Cowboys are extremely crucial to win in my eyes. After that...

We face Melbourne, Roosters & Penrith inside 11 days....

Roosters get the same turn around from ANZAC day as us and have to come to NZ

But to face those 3 back to back to back is going to be a massive effort.

(Not sure if this is the appropriate thread but..)

Warriors rest 12 from training as opening schedule takes toll

After a draining first five weeks which has included 30 hours of flying, almost all of the Warriors frontline players were rested from training on Wednesday in order to refresh ahead of the Round 6 clash against the Knights.

The club's mid-week field session included just five players who are named to play this week, with captain Tohu Harris Harris and five-eighth Te Maire Martin both taking part after missing last week through injury, and forwards Josh Curran, Bunty Afoa and Tom Ale also present.

While a potential rest was already penciled into the schedule, coach Andrew Webster said watching the toll last week's comeback win over the Sharks took on his squad confirmed it was the right time.

"We looked at the boys, felt the situation and then decided to make the call," Webster said.

"[The Sharks] had [54] percent possession, so if that's the case we were tackling a lot on the weekend, so we have got to take that into consideration.

There is going to be a time for that, where we have got to aim up at training and do it regardless, but that wasn't this week.
Andrew Webster

"The travel does have an impact at times. I think you have got to be smart at different times on when to manage that.

"I couldn't see us doing this [resting the majority of the group] for another 5-6 weeks again.

"There's a big part of us that knows how much work we have got to do, to get a lot of things right about our game, but we want to make sure we fix those things with energy, rather than fix them tired and battered."

While Martin is symptom-free following his Round 4 concussion and will be good to go against the Knights, Harris remains only a 50-50 chance right now, which Webster said could be the case for several weeks to come as he battles a knee injury.

As he prepares to face Newcastle for the second time in five weeks, Webster said he sees plenty of similarities between the two clubs so far in 2023, particularly after the Knights overcame scoreboard deficits twice to secure a draw with the Sea Eagles last week.

"They went to the Tigers [in Round 2], had all their injuries, had one sent off, and still managed to find away," Webster said of his opponents.

"They had another guy in the bin on the weekend, they found a way.

"We know how well they are going and how they are playing with lots of resilience also... Round 1 [against Newcastle] was one of the hardest games we've played.

Lots has been made of the 3 games in 11 days across venues in Victoria, NZ & Queensland and rightly so. Tough hand to be dealt. The oddness of the draw means in the not too distant future we play 3 games across 40 days! Weird old schedule

Yes we're in a tough spot at the moment but without looking at any other team I would think we have one of the best 2nd half of the season draws.

We have Raiders, Dragons and Dolphins twice - all teams vying with us for maybe two of the last spots in the 8

Broncos without Origin players

Feel we are also lucky to only play Melbourne, Rabbits & Panthers once this season

All in all, tough going at the moment but our draw will not be the reason for missing the 8
