How does everyone feel about Tohu Harris being captain? I have no issue with how he plays and his talent (and none should!). But comments from other players about how quiet he is and how is nickname is 'zombie' cause he slinks around with no expression. If it was me in that team I would find that kind of leader frustrating. Fine to have that type in the group, especially when they perform like he does. Obviously lots of factors in it and coaches all have their reasons.

Been a problem for us since the Campion/Price days. Every possible recruit should be under the microscope for leadership qualities. The more the merrier for this team
The zombie thing was Brandon Smith on mattie johns show & he didn't describe him as 'slinking' around with no expression lol, it was more about how he just got on with it, no chatty chatty (like One B Smith). Think it was discussed on here at some point?
Anyway, Webster seems like an astute guy to me, think he would notice a 'zombie' in the ranks & pretty sure he wouldn't pick one for Captain. Said he watched him across all activities in pre-season and all he could see was the right person for the job, or something like that.
Believe he talked to the players as well? Think he would've picked up any frustration or other negativity about Harris even if it was unspoken.
It's also an old trope that Harris is too quiet on the field. Once maybe when he was learning his trade under the 3 Storm goats leadership.
I looked for it when he was made captain last year. He talks to the players throughout the game, talks to the ref, points out shite calls & questions 50/50 decisions but doesn't waste time arguing if the ref won't budge. You see a bit on televised games but the camera follows the action not the captain 24/7 or anyone else for that matter. A lot happens off the ball. Have a good look next time at a live game.
I'm hoping to see a lot of communication across the whole team this season - will get worried if they're quiet or go quiet in a game. Think they have enough leaders in the team with the confidence to be vocal & bring the whole team up, not just Harris.

Not over the moon about it, but I don’t think we have many contenders for the role. Also doesn’t seem that Webster had his eyes on anyone but him.
I think I would have liked to have seen Wayde Egan or Mitch Barnett get it.
Outside of Tohu Harris and those two..
Addin: Similar to Tohu Harris in that he can lead by example, but not sure if he has the voice for it.
Shaun: The complete opposite, he has the passion and the voice but the performances simply aren’t there. If this is his last year with us I do want to see him as captain in Rd 26 or Rd 27 though.
Dallin: Obviously he captained the Kiwis and actually could have been a good choice if he wasn’t playing on the wing and had just a bit more consistency.
Jazz: Like Shaun in that he has all the passion and is loud enough, but he may never get to a high enough level of play needed to be captain.

He’s our best player, most consistent, hardest worker and would run into brick walls all day for the team. Best option really. Egan will keep getting groomed for the role but still has areas in his own game to work on first. I’m good with it but I’d like to see a lot more direction from the spine players this year especially Egan getting a louder and louder voice. I would say Shaun Johnson but just don’t think he has quite enough respect within the group.

Agree. So many of the great half’s were captains as well, interesting that Shaun Johnson was never really bought up as a Warriors captaincy option during his career.
I could be remembering that wrong though??

Outside of captaining in Nines for us and the Kiwis, the only time I can recall Captain and Shaun Johnson being mentioned in the same sentence was Nathan Brown explaining why Wayde Egan was named captain instead of him when Addin Fonua-Blake and Tohu Harris were injured early last year.
I can't find the video, but I think it was leading up to the Cowboys game that we won in golden point, and Brown said that Shaun will still be a leader on the field but he didn't need the tag/responsibility bogging him down? Obviously I am paraphrasing there based on a memory from 9 months ago though.
Ultimately, Addin wound up playing the game in the end though if I remember right.

We need to draw the line and challenge and yes even complain to get our side across the line

Didn’t Elliot say his big regret was not making Shaun Johnson captain?
I remember early in his career there was talk he tried to take ownership of the side but there was push back from some of the senior players or something.

If we show some mettle in the first 10 rounds it'll bode well going forward. At the very least we'll see if Webster, and this team, can think on their feet and have a foundation to build off.
Which I believe they have and will...not confident enough to say this year (that would be a huge bonus) but I like to think there's something special building. Call me delusional 🤪 if you like

No surprise. Tough draw, no extra games in NZ, sums up the attitude of the NRL towards the warriors. However I agree, we need to play up to the opposition.

Agree...Egan would be a good choice - he is smart / a good link between the Kiwis and Aussies, Committed to the club / is a talker / commands a start and at least 60 to 80mins in the game .......with Toho and Addin Fonua-Blake as his deputies. Surely all won't be off at the same time.
