Recruitment 2023/2024 Warriors Recruitment DISCUSSION

At the risk of getting a telling off from Mt Wellington who has an uncanny ability to remember all my past drums I have been beating the answer to our centre problems is to sign Starford To'a. He is on the outer at tigers and isn't in their game day 13.
Let's trade for him as he is signed for two more years at tigers.
Williame for To'a would be a goer
Or one of our young prospects in a trade for him.
Starford can't be on more than 250 tops and he will immediately be our best centre as soon as he comes here.
Speed to burn
A nose for the try line
Strong fend
Reasonable defence
And experienced so that means he doesn't make rookie mistakes.
Still relatively young at 22
Wrighty is this your son.
TBF he is a decent player and would do well here but we don’t need him. We have solid incumbents and really promising up and comers

Still recovering from an ACL injury. Doesn’t sound like he will be back running for a while which is why he was given a release. Wasn’t going to be re-signed and was out injured so freed up a spot for the Titans
Super League towards the end of the season perhaps?

free a spot to pick up Ken Maumalo by the sounds....
Yep

The Titans have signed winger Ken Maumalo after the 28-year-old was granted an immediate release from his Tigers contract.

Maumalo will join Justin Holbrook’s side for the remainder of the 2023 season, adding to the Gold Coast’s impressive winger stocks until the end of 2025.

Holbrook said Maumalo ticked all the boxes when it came to looking for players to fill their empty roster spots.

Trades don't happen like that in NRL, unless someone is wanting an early release, or a club is trying to dump a player. Technically we aren't even allowed to talked to Toa.

I know you love the bloke, and he has family here (they actually sat behind me in the Tigers home coming match last year), but he's an unrealistic target for us until November this year. He's got some talent, but don't think he'll shift the dial for us. It's odd he couldn't crack a poor Knights side, and now is 4th in line at the Tigers (after Naden, Talau and Kepaoa). Still young though.
BlueSky Ref Blain

1) Worth trying for him though and inquiring. Clubs and players break contracts all the time. Sure granted we can't talk to him until Nov 1 but we can talk to Tigers management to see if he fits in the plans and have somewhat of a dialogue. If they have him 4th in line they might be open to releasing him for compensation.
2) With regards to him being not rated by the Tigers, who cares! The Tigers are poor at talent identification. They had a choice between keeping Luke Brooks or Jackson Hastings and they kept Brooks this off season. Maybe there was some people personality issues to it, but it came across as they rated Brooks ahead of Hastings. Montoya wasn't rated by dogs either, Finally, would you bank and commit your clubs future on Benji as a coach before he even had any experience coaching, One man's trash is another man's treasure.
3) Starford is a kiwi so should be interested in living in Auckland
4) We do need him and he will move the dial. He will comfortably and immediately be our best centre by a distance. That isn't a big call by me since we have vanilla centres at the moment.

5) Is my son? Why am I bigging him up?
Because I want the warriors to win and he is a hidden treasure. Quite easily the best value for money back in the league, He would be a quality pick up. Listen to me McFadden !!!!!!!

Trading Campbelltown for Surfers Paradise. Well played Kenny

I was just looking up his NSW stats and averaging like 130m a game, tackling % has been average, but has several line breaks and 2 tries.

I dunno, if he's going to get good experience but we making it clear he's in our plans kind term, I'd be okay with that
