Recruitment 2023/2024 Warriors Recruitment DISCUSSION

Does anyone know if it’s true that as part of his release Roger Tuivasa-Sheck has to come back to us if we want him and he comes back to the NRL. I read that somewhere.

If so I take him back and put him at fullback and Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad into centre, but the two could swap if need be.
That was only if he came back while still within the time frame of when his old contract would have ended, he's a free agent if he comes back to NRL.

I feel ale could be our Leniu. You look directly at the stats and they’re pretty comparable. Leniu has 3-4 years on ale too, and only in the last 18 months has developed into a beast. Always had it, but had a bunch of errors and could only hack 20 or so mins. Also plays in a team that gets front foot ball & rolls down the park at ease versus us. Ale on peanuts vs your proposed 700k I know which way I’m going.

We need another prop, that’s obvious. Any injury and our depth is very concerning. But we need a starter. Barnett is better as an edge and is being used as a mid out of desperation. He can absolutely do a job, but in the wider channels is a weapon.

Props available this year and into next year I’d love to have a crack at:
2023 off contract
Flegler 6-700k
Greig 2-300k
Gular 4-500k
Thompson 6-700k
Mclean 5-600k
Kerr 2-400k
Leniu 3-500k

2024:
Esese 4-500k
Fotuaika 5-600k
Hamlin-uele 5-600k
Royce hunt 5-600k
Terrell May 3-400k
Tpj 6-700k
Paseka 5-600k
Rudolf 5-600k
Pasami saulo 3-400k
Alex twal 6-700k

Preferences 2023:
Thompson
Leniu
Gular

2024:
Hunt
Hamlin-uele
Twal
Fotuaika
Paseka
May

I think Thompson is a real possibility, and would being consistency and maturity to our pack. I also think Royce hunt would be a huge signing, bringing him back home. Paseka and may would bring the size, and twal the consistency we need.
U would give twal and tpj 700,000 but not leniu?
I don’t know why people think leniu would be incapable of starting? It’s still a game of rugby league- not like he’s going to another sport and the only reason he doesn’t start now is that he’s got the best front row in the comp ahead of him- he wouldn’t have that problem here.
As for the ale comparison- why can’t we have both? Having them two sharing minutes would be farkin awesome I reckon.
Hunt and paseka are both signed up long term so u can forget about them- Thompson Is a possibility.

So, as far as I can see this rule of having 29 players contracted by the first Monday in March (i.e next week) still applies - so we will need one more... this page is really interesting actually - especially the latter items in the timeline at the bottom - the cuts to the cap etc. - have they been restored prior to the new CBA?

Broncos put out an article recently stating that they have finalised their squad for the start of the season - and they have 28 players in their squad, so I am assuming 28 is the magic number this season?

"The Broncos have finalised the club’s NRL playing roster ahead of the opening round of the 2023 season.

Captained by Adam Reynolds, the Broncos will begin the year with a quality NRL squad of 28 players, strengthened by the inclusion of off-season signings, fullback Reece Walsh, halfback Jock Madden and prop Martin Taupau as well as the return of versatile outside back Jesse Arthars from loan."

Royce is home. Born & Bred in Oz. Paseka is more likely to be coerced into returning home as he was born in NZ. Still, Played all his Junior league in Oz. So it won't be that simple.

Luke Thompson out with a serious leg injury, looking at 6+ months.

Super unlucky for the bloke, but it could be a silver lining for us...would likely be stressing out about not being able to put his best foot forward and show what he's capable of in his contract season, I wonder if we tell him well basically pay him 'almost as much as what he's on now' and offer him 700k.

Does he take the money or does he run the risk and try and show potential clubs what he's worth?

Just my opinion but Kosi has Setu covered with ease. Kosi was getting named ahead of Setu back in the 2019 ISP team. Setu is reserve grade for the reserve grade. Kosi will either be in NRL or reserve grade for the NRL...
Kosi definitely has Tu covered physically but I think Tu is stronger mentally. Tu seems like a nightingale player, not the fastest or most powerful but just pushes through and seems to make things work with what he gets. On his day Kosi is pretty good, and can play very well (not elite), however on a bad day he can let in 3 tries and make some stupid errors. I would personally be very open to what wingers we have and just make them work hard in reserve grade for their spot. Whoever does the hard work and shines gets the spot.

I think everyone agrees as a collective our backline is looking a bit meh.
Looking at backs off contract next year though it’s pretty slim pickings- I’d go in hard for Warbrick now- I think he’s in for a big year and the longer we leave it the more demand we’ll be competing with.
He’s a realist option with massive upside.

We do need a quality front rower too though
