So with that in mind, I think we need to look at making a big play, before that money becomes standard. For example, if we were to offer players like Niko Hynes, Payne Haas, Suuali - those one step down from the top echelon of players - a million a year, we'd likely see someone sign on with us, however in 2 years or so that money might be more standard for those kind of players so we would have to pay the elite money (another 2 or 300k) to get them.
Hynes is already top echelon. Currently ranked in the top 3-5 players in the game depending on who you talk to. To lure him, we'd probably need to offer 1.5m or so (under the new CBA).

Agree with the rest of your comment though.

Yeah that horse has probably already bolted, but given he's only been a starting half for one year I think of he was up for contract negotiations, offering him 1 mill would go close (again, probably not for the Warriors).

But yeah, another year or two of that form and he'll be getting a pretty significant payrise...

Tbh, not too sure position wise I would want us to spend up large in.
Hooker - no
Prop - no (Addin Fonua-Blake already, and I am assuming after this year Tohu Harris has to make his way there, surely)
Backrower - no, we have plenty of quality players
Half - no - as Te Maire Martin and Metcalf should be the plan moving forward
Wingers - no, never spend big money there.
Fullback - probably. Imo Charnz to centre and make a big play for a full back

I guess looking at that, either an alpha prop, a top half, or a top fullback would probably be my picks

I saw a FoxSport article saying that Curtis Sironen had impressed NRL clubs when playing for St Helen’s. It also said that one club had asked one of their senior players to contact him to see if he could get to the NRL immediately.
Okay, he’s a back rower but we must have a player in our squad who is close to him and not afraid to ask the question?
Only think is that Bayley could put himself out of a job !

Like the Dura winger ? Talked up by the Warriors supporters and then played a pre season …. Whoops
Selestino Ravutaumada may be better suited to Union - his defence in that pre-season (e.g., NRL 9s in Perth) was quite woeful. I'm sure he is a good kid and has great attacking highlights, so hopefully gets a good shot for the Drua.

(Note that during that same pre-season, one of our recruits made Team of the Tournament at the NRL 9s.)

😆 good luck getting any nrl club to touch him with a 10ft pole
Perhaps we could throw him a "unders train and trial contract" lifeline?

We pretty good at rehabilitation of troubled players!

This to me suggests CG given his blessing for Roger Tuivasa-Sheck to be elsewhere. And appears to coming across as saying we don't need him, while at the same time saying come back Roger without actually saying come back Roger we ARE interested

what do we reckon? will we see another signing this week, or an upgrade - if so who? (are we obliged to have another one for our top 30 at this stage of the year? still not clear on that)

Next year our spine will be:
1 Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad
6 Te Maire Martin
7 Metcalf
9 Egan

With Volkman in reserve,
We will need another depth half

I say stick with that spine and use our lodge/Shaun Johnson money to get ourselves
1) A strike centre
2) A strong prop

I think Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad can bounce back to his best this year.
Does anyone know if it’s true that as part of his release Roger Tuivasa-Sheck has to come back to us if we want him and he comes back to the NRL. I read that somewhere.

If so I take him back and put him at fullback and Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad into centre, but the two could swap if need be.

I feel ale could be our Leniu. You look directly at the stats and they’re pretty comparable. Leniu has 3-4 years on ale too, and only in the last 18 months has developed into a beast. Always had it, but had a bunch of errors and could only hack 20 or so mins. Also plays in a team that gets front foot ball & rolls down the park at ease versus us. Ale on peanuts vs your proposed 700k I know which way I’m going.

We need another prop, that’s obvious. Any injury and our depth is very concerning. But we need a starter. Barnett is better as an edge and is being used as a mid out of desperation. He can absolutely do a job, but in the wider channels is a weapon.

Props available this year and into next year I’d love to have a crack at:
2023 off contract
Flegler 6-700k
Greig 2-300k
Gular 4-500k
Thompson 6-700k
Mclean 5-600k
Kerr 2-400k
Leniu 3-500k

2024:
Esese 4-500k
Fotuaika 5-600k
Hamlin-uele 5-600k
Royce hunt 5-600k
Terrell May 3-400k
Tpj 6-700k
Paseka 5-600k
Rudolf 5-600k
Pasami saulo 3-400k
Alex twal 6-700k

Preferences 2023:
Thompson
Leniu
Gular

2024:
Hunt
Hamlin-uele
Twal
Fotuaika
Paseka
May

I think Thompson is a real possibility, and would being consistency and maturity to our pack. I also think Royce hunt would be a huge signing, bringing him back home. Paseka and may would bring the size, and twal the consistency we need.
