Sounds like a kid my son went to daycare with. The other kids would be playing with toys and he'd have weetbix cards of All Blacks wanting to know their name or position they played. Talking to his father at one birthday party he was telling me how instead of waking him up to watch cartoons he would wake him up to watch sport. Didn't matter what Super Rugby from South Africa or Premier League.

That boy ended up going to a different school along with one of my sons other friends. When we caught up with his friend one time they mentions their rugby and how he scored. Their mate had scored his usual 4-5 tries.

Can any of my fellow OG Warriors fans remember that preseason trial match we had a few years ago against Brisbane back when the Broncs were still a genuine force ???

I can't remember all the details but I remember it was either down in Wellyz or Dunners & the Warriors were in those pounamu colored tribal type jersey's (nice af kit btw)

Anyways, the Warriors led by Shaun Johnson put on awesome performance that day & absolutely put a powerful Broncos outfit to the sword for a nice W

Afterwards I remember the vast majority of this forum (including myself) waxing lyrical about this being a Warriors outfit the likes of which we'd never seen before & the hype for the following season took off like a rocket ship on steroids

I think I even joined in on the now mythical "THIS IS OUR YEAR!!!" mantra myself lol

And by mythical I mean fantastical, like aliens, bigfoot & a legitimate western democracy

As in they all sound amazing & great but does any of it really exist lol ???

But I digress, while I don't remember the exact end result of the season following that Broncs trial ... I do remember that it was pretty poor even by Warriors standards

So it's things like this & other things since (the Shaun Johnson debacle to name just one) that have changed me as a life long fan

I used to be a hardcore Warriors cheerleader who would mercilessly troll The Faithless & find any reason to convince even myself that THIS IS FINALLY OUR YEAR!!! ( just have to read some of the delusional gratuitous wanks I wrote about Kearney being the man to lead us to the promised land when he was 1st signed as coach to see that lol)

But as I age I find that even though I am still passionate about this franchise, I now approach each season still hopeful but with limited expectations

Much easier on the blood pressure & the heart for this old OG ex cheerleader

Nothing at all against those that support in that manner ... you gotta do youse

But for me it's just like I said to my ex wife ... I'll always love you babe & you're by far the best shag I've ever known, but no matter how wild the sex is you've still let me down way too many times so lets just be friends yeh ... with the occasional benefits of course 😉😆

I remember it well bro, and the hype for the season. We're just old and cynical, nothing wrong with still believing anything is possible. You may say they're dreamers but I envy their delusional optimism, what else is left to believe in.

Easy to do when the team have had so many variants over the years lol

Don't get me wrong though, I just finished watching yesterday's match again on YouTube & I'm definitely encouraged about the same things that most others including yourself are

I'm just easing my way back onto the inevitable rollercoaster is all

Hope for the best but prepare for the worst kinda thing lol

I .watched the whole trial and was impressed with how all players operated within the team shape. There were mistakes and lapses, but that is to be expected and Frankly part and parcel of a trial. There seemed to be discipline there.

I thought everybody played well within the shapes. At this time of year there will be plenty of powder kept dry, in saying that those who operated in the spine positions all added value.

The backs looked threatening at times, the newer guys like Ratuva and Kosi can take a lot of confidence, same wit Berry and Vailea.

There is core of Forwards now that provides depth, and interchanges thaat can maintain momentum. Just one trial but good signs and lots to build on.

Not sure if this has been mentioned but, Pene looked good, found his front when tackled and gained a quick PTB.

Just rewatched the game and am pretty happy with that performance, albeit a trial. Everyone looked focused and great to see the t&t players going extra hard.

Couple of observations

No injuries, big plus. The players looked trim
The forwards got plenty of ascendency once they got into their work, still slow starters though. Runs weren't that long but post contact looked good. The wrestle from the storm was a disgrace.
Otukolo has a nice pass, looking forward to him running
Jazz had a great game and no errors
Berry will be a star
Halves still looked a bit disjointed to me, maybe Shaun Johnson will make the difference there. Kodi to partner I'm thinking
First look at the fijian kid. Shit he's tall. Love to see him get a cutout ball from Reece on our goal line and head off. Looks like he has a turn of speed

Overall, a pretty pleasing trial and it's great to see some footie being played

Was really impressed with Pene, thought of him as a decent squad signing at first but from what I saw on Sat he’s liking more like our #3 prop that won’t lose Addin Fonua-Blake and Lodge momentum

Having him and Bunty playing quite well allows us to split Lodge and Addin Fonua-Blake.

Very promising little stint from the small prop Garrett Smith as well.

Jazz has been such a frustrating player, we saw him make no errors and do nothing stupid and he ends up the best forward on the feild.

Keep it going Jazz. I noticed when Jazz just held onto a random offload from Lodge....I wanted to shout "See Jazz? NAH...SEE I told you to put it away"..
