I was a fan of his signing, not so much anymore lol .look, I still believe he is a good player that can provide value. He's a great finisher for example and is quick off the mark. They need to stop using him as a battering ram though and instead use him out of dummy half, fast quick darts thru the ruck.

Im not a big fan of Dallin Watene-Zelezniak by any stretch, but I feel his stats are pretty hard done by this year. Has only played 4 games - 1 with a broken thumb and the other got knocked in to next week by big NAS.
Statistically on the wing he’s pretty decent at making meters - averaging 150 the last few years with 2-3.5 tackle breaks a game. He’s also fast and a decent finisher, so once he comes back into a bit of form I think we’re not too bad with him and Montoya there.
He does give me the shits bringing the ball back though, you he’s going to get dragged back a few meters each run.

I checked out his stats from the previous few years before I posted and I agree his avg meters per game are not too bad, looking a bit closer though you discover he‘s still averaging around 5-6 meters per carry which isn’t momentum building, though he is a bit of an animal and is almost always trying for the quick play the ball which is definitely what you want.
Last year while brief was his best for several years in terms of meters per carry averaging almost 8 which is fine but we had different blokes helping to build momentum from the back last year too.

They're not using him as a battering ram. Its the wingers job to be able to take early carries out of their own end. Montoya gets through his work fine. Pompey and Vailea are also acceptable in this area.
Dallin Watene-Zelezniak is good for about 25 - 30 metres driven back a game, which puts us under a tone of pressure. He needs to be looking for holes to run at or smaller players in the line. If there's absolutely nothing just get to ground like Walsh does.
Dallin Watene-Zelezniak is a decent corner finisher. Is a liability at everything else.
What I meant is stop using him as the first or second hit up, which is essentially a battering ram. Call it what you want..with what we have now, who would you put in his place if he is liability everywhere else? Kosi? Berry? No, didn't think so.. I'm just saying if we have him on the field use him to his strengths. I think he could be useful thru the ruck.

So he's not going to take any first or second carries now? Great. I'm sure Addin Fonua-Blake and Lodge will be stoked with that.
That's the job of every single wing in the NRL.
I know this forum has meme'd propwings to a pulp, partly because we havn't had elite finishers in the last few years. But every wing needs to be making yardage. Dallin Watene-Zelezniak is no exception.
We've seen Charlie Staines be dropped for Taylan May as a result of this.
Yeah exactly, taking hit up 2 after Roger Tuivasa-Sheck had poked his nose through and got to his feet in a flash is different to getting flat foot ball against a pressing defence.

We got lucky with a couple eg. Carlaw, Tate, Martin, a lesser extent Neilsen
But we been our best when we blood our centres. For 2 reasons. They tend to stick around a long time and are pretty good when we hit the mark. For mine our recruitment does a poor job or managing expectation of the up and coming guns. We make a number of bad calls. Eg.. Hurrell over laumape, feki, and taukeiaho. All in the same team but we let all 3 walk from the same winning NYC Team

David Klemmer (contracted until 2023)
Klemmer is reportedly on $850,000 this season but the former Kangaroos prop hasn’t played like a footballer of that billing for some time. The Knights could end up paying a chunk of his hefty salary to play elsewhere and free up even more space in their cap.
This is a speculative article but with Lodge seemingly rejecting the offer for an extension, would Klemmer be worth throwing that money at. Nathan Brown got him to the knights, could he get him here?

Would love Klemmer here at a reduced salary. He has been playing really well. Plays with soo much energy and passion. Something we have been lacking. Lodge has brought that in recent games but Klemmer is better imo.

I think it is somewhat unfair on Dallin Watene-Zelezniak playing outside a really junior centre. I think Dallin Watene-Zelezniak can go well (he certainly has the wheels) if his centre pairing is right. As it stands, his weaknesses are really exposed.
Seeing as we have a tonne of second rowers on the books, I'd like to see Aitken move back to a centre role and in doing so, halve the number of defensive misreads in the backline.
And we need to recruit a decent specialist centre for next year. Good centres set the platform for good defence.

Sounds as though Newcastle are trying to free up some extra cap to make a big play for Munster.
Perhaps the Lodge/Klemmer swap may happen after all.
Yup, it was a cripple fight but he was close to, if not the best player on the park in that game.
Yeah I watched the game and he was very good. He hit the line hard every time and also had a few offloads from getting the arm free. With second rowers being more hole runners than distributors nowadays I think we have a very good pairing for next year in Niukore and Barnett. That would allow Tohu Harris, Curran and Walker to move the ball playing from the middle

My only worry is the amount of games so far this season that Niukore has either been injured or suspended.

Missing Arthars something chronic, why would we not be making a play for a guy who has desire to play for the team he grew up backing?
Klemmer, meh, hes been $500k at best for so often, really inconsistant, but clearly given that games stats can turn it on still. Surely we not offering that kind of money? Mind you outside last week I wouldnt have rated Lodge for what we paying. We seem to over pay our forwards and under pay our backs, given the Spine is the priority of which all teams build off, we should be not aiming at cheap and cheerfuls there and having no FG centres when 1 gets injured (who is actually a development player himself, but very good compared to has replaced him).
I've always been a Klemmer fan. He's a fair way out of form but he'd definitely go along way to making up for the loss of Lodge if we got him.
There was talk about Nelson making a play for the ABs from the storm. Hed be my preference even if hes a union guy at heart. Either of them can be good, but both need firing up or they gentle giants.
Besides, getting Nelson to see the Warriors as a similarity to playing for the ABs might be a slightly hard sell hehe ;-p
If Klemer did 140m and 40 tackles every game, Id say sign him for $850k, but thats not the norm. Again, we seem to want to over invest in half baked forwards and not in class Spine and OB's and we are paying for it. No real 9 today, been average since Chitty busted a nut, our RG level centres are speed bumps (thank goodnees for pompey moving back in, but Vailea, good luck). Invest in the backs and a few class forwards, but dont skimp on the spine. George loves cheap and cheerful in the backs/spine but seems to get over ruled with the forwards.
