Let's be honest. If you had the two deals on the table:
  1. SYD for $850k. Don't have to move. Familiar environment. High performance environment. Play where you are picked.
  2. NZW for $1m. Based in a hotel in QLD, but TBC beyond next year. Not a high performance environment. Play where you choose.
Which one would you pick?
Win a premiership with warriors or roosters tho?

I'd choose the most money lol. $250k a year more is a lot of extra fucking money.

Quick round of golf with uncle nick- $10,000 a hole and the gap is closing.
All the boys always say old Nick is a terrible golfer.

Plus being able to play in the spine increases his future earnings potential. His next contract after the one he will soon sign (which might be his last big one) could be worth even more if he shows value in the halves or at fullback.
The money should make our contract hard to turn down. Along with the ability to play in the spine our pitch to him will be around marketing. At the Roosters he's a key player but behind other big names. O'Sullivan mentioned about him being marketable or the face of the club.

I know we aren't the highest club for TPA's but Roger Tuivasa-Sheck managed to get some good deals. No reason why Manu couldn't get some sponsorships.

I've heard him also talked about as a target for the Dolphins. They will be linked to every big name but still a worry with O'Sullivan heading there. The face of the club pitch would of worked for the Warriors but he'd still be a fan of his playing ability and would just change the pitch to being part of a new club.

Halve that for tax and then declining marginal utility of income combined with loyalty to the Roosters makes it unlikely Manu leaves.
He is a Kiwi from Tokoroa
How much loyalty can a Kiwi have to an Australian franchise
My rhetorical question leads me to suspect rooster may need to sweeten the pot to keep him in the next 48 hours.
They can sweeten the pot either financially or positionally

He’s incredibly loyal to the Roosters, they looked after him big time when he was a kid with only aspirations of NRL.

The dolphins need 30 players and have $9.5m to spend
Without an expansion draft, which there would be in the NHL then they need to pick up like 50 percent of these free agents and can’t be too picky
They don’t have many other player sources and opportunities save the super league and their own Queensland cup side.
We may be underestimating them as a competitor for every free agent we target this year.

Ok so we have known for a while now that the Warriors were going to chase Manu. The only way we would have had a chance was if he was after the money more than a Premiership. Sounds like he is wanting a Premiership because signing with the Warriors would only be for the money as there is no chance of winning a Premiership with them. Sounds like Niukorie is coming but not until 2023, and Metcalf wants to come but the Sharks don't want to release him until after next season. With not getting Manu I wonder who the Warriors will chase now/ They always seemed to be linked to just about everyone but hopefully they don;' just rush out and sign someone to fill in the numbers. With Manu not coming I wonder if they will think differently about Chanel Harris-Tavita? I know we were all excited about November 1, but in reality it is going to be like opening up your Christmas present wanting an Xbox and getting underwear :(

The money is one side of it but he’s also said he want to play in the spine. The only way I see the Roosters keeping him is if they plan to phase out Keary. The guy is one head knock away from retiring. I’m sure they would kick themselves if Keary only played another year or two and they lost Manu in the process. But then again they chose not to play Manu there when they were pressed for halves depth this year and went with Hutchison etc. Walker and Tedesco obviously have the other spots locked down for the foreseeable future.
I thought he was coming here because he wanted to win a premiership 😂

I wouldn't be that upset to miss out on Manu, I think he's a fullback/centre, I don't think he has the rounded game to play halves, well at a million dollar per season level anyway. I think you're right - that the roosters agree.

The only way we would get the best out of him at 6 is having a controlling and kicking 7, like Reynolds. Walsh won't move from 1, and we will be doing everything to make him happy.

He would be more of a signing to sell jerseys and get people to games, which is what the club needs, but I'm not quite sold on his on field output for $1M.
Yeh I have to agree.
Roger our last million dollar fullback got us to one finals series. I don’t think anyone other Turbo is worth that. Manu isn’t going to single handily win us games like he did with manly.
The positive spin the club put on Roger Tuivasa-Sheck leaving was being able to rebalance the cap....
