I'm not sure what the line in today's herald that we "are in desperate need of big men, especially after the loss of Adam Blair" means.
1. We have plenty of "big men" AFB, BMM, JTB, LAM, Harris, Ale, Evans, Katoa, Murchie
2. Adam Blair was - a. Not that big, b. Not that good.... I don't see him as a loss at all
3. As far as I can tell, Matt Lodge is nothing other than big. He's not skilful, not fast, no footwork, no nothing. His 2020 highlight reel is mostly dropped balls.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks our forwards are sorted, certainly our big money forwards. If we're going to throw a "multi million" dollar contract around the front row is not the place we need to throw it.

If Tohu wants out, I really hope he doesn’t!
It is what it is for me.

We are finally being an attractive option in the player market as we were avoided like the plague unless you were a Kiwi.

If he leaves it’s not all doom and gloom, we will have options. But I hope like hell he stays and Signs an extension with us.

What a fuggen poo signing if true.
"Oh but he's big & doesn't Take A bAcKwARds sTeP"

Fu*k off!!!

He's a coward. He'll bully Cameron Smith & Jorge Taufua. But drop his bundle when NAS , Andrew Fifita & Junior Paulo offered to cave his head in. Then play like a Pavalova the rest of the game.

Big? yes? Offer much else ? Nope.

Rather we kept the toko Paasi. At least he doesnt go around trying to beat random innocent women to a pulp.

Kefe.

Another thing on Lodge - what would our 4 prop rotation be without him there? AFB, LAM, Evans and then who? JTB was ok but is far from the finished product, Afoa is clearly moving on as soon as his contract expires. There’s definitely space for Lodge within our squad (so long as we’re not paying an absurd amount to get him across).
I’m assuming the plan is to use Tohu and/or BMM for a stint in the middle eg

AFB (50 mins) and Evans (30mins)
Ah Mau (50 mins) and Tohu/BMM 30 mins

with JTB, Ale and Bunty for depth.

Otherwise we have too many back rowers - Tohu, BMM, Murchie, Katoa, Jazz, Sironen, Curran

Yes I think without Lodge that would be the most likely plan - I thought JTB wasn’t strong enough defending behind the ruck to deserve a spot in the 17 next season. However ideally you have a specialist prop in that rotation which is what Lodge would clearly provide. Question then becomes which back rowers don’t make a fully fit team. I’m unconvinced on the BMM signing and don’t feel quite as enthusiastic about Sironen as others seem to.

Good to see the Herald finally say the obvious: That maybe the Warriors are just being used to up a player's value - the fact that this also ups the player's agent's fee is just one of those weird, spooky, random coincidences the universe barfs up into existence, by the way - in future negotiations with that player's current club or other clubs.

If Johnny Lydon was Warriors recruitment and looked over some of the deals we've done, he might ask, "Ever get the feeling you've been cheated?"

A bit out there but if it is all true and Tohu possibly on the way out would it be back to the Storm since big Tino gone? Pure speculation on my behalf.
Well that really does make sense.
Like you say pure speculation but that seems about right with Tino and the chances of Cam Smith gone is around 99%

Can't see Smith playing next year but not sure why he is waiting so long to make a call, usually when he releases a book thats it isn't it? :) Grant will be 9 next year and Brandon will be 14 - Harry Grant could be the next Smith.

The game has moved past players like Lodge. We need mobile props with footwork.

If we tie up that kind of money in Lodge its a straight up terrible signing.

Surely POS knows how this looks. We're about to pay massive overs to sign his son in law.

The 6 again rule came in 5 months ago. Bit early to say the game has morphed into something these players can’t contribute too. Like or Loathe it Lodge is an elite Prop.
Of course the question is if we need him.......

BROWN SHUTS DOWN LINK TO STORM STAR

Warriors coach Nathan Brown has refuted claims that the club was preparing to make a play for Storm half Jahrome Hughes.

Hughes, who is off contract after 2021 so is free to talk to rivals, has been linked to a move to the Warriors, however Brown says he is more than happy with his current halves pairing.

“I can honestly say we haven’t spoken to Jahrome Hughes,” he told Triple M’s Rush Hour with MG.

“What a terrific player, he’s been outstanding but we feel very confident in young Chanel Harris-Tavita, he played under ‘Mooksy’ (Stephen Kearney) and got around 30 games and Kodi Nikorima had his best year last year too.

“So as it stands, we’ve got Chanel on a bit of a longer term contract and Kodi’s got one year to go but with the way those blokes played last year we’ll hopefully see a lot of growth in them but who knows where people end up. But I can honestly say that Jahrome Hughes is not a player we’ve had any conversation with even though he’s an outstanding talent.”

Yeah and we've already seen the effects in 5 months. It doesn't take a genius to forecast where the game is heading in the next 2-3 years.

There's not really anything about Lodge's game that makes me think he will be able to adapt. AFB, although similar size and motor, is a lot faster off the mark than Lodge and has miles better footwork.

And Lodge will absolutely still be able to contribute when the game reaches that stage, but your essentially paying him star player money.
