Away games against the Illawarra Cutters and Wests Tigers have been confirmed for the opening two rounds of the Vodafone Warriors’ 2016 New South Wales Cup campaign.

Like the club’s NRL team, the Stacey Jones-coached NSW Cup side won’t play at home until the third round when it meets the Newtown Jets at Mount Smart Stadium on March 20 followed by a clash against the Wyong Roos on Mount Smart Stadium No 2 on Sunday, March 27.

Two more road trips follow giving the Vodafone Warriors four away games in the first six weeks of the season but they have back-to-back home games against the Mounties and the Penrith Panthers to wind up their regular season.

Lots of games at Mount Smart #2... So that will mean less triple headers. Shame.. :(

That's solid alright.
Hingano wasted on the bench tho- he either starts or plays 20s.

Yeah no need to rush Hingano.. still a few things to work on but I can see him getting a bit of game time in NSW Cup

Liking what I'm hearing about Charnze during pre season.

Impressing the coaches can't wait to see how he'll go in the halves or centres, from the pics that have been posted he's ripped and looks a bit of a goer

In theory everybody in the NSW cup should be capable of stepping up to the NRL without blinking...that is if the club is serious about competing

Yep totally. Any one of those reserve graders should be able to step up to top grade at any time and produce the goods, no excuses.

Think back to 2011 when all 3 grades made the finals, it can be achieved with everyone on the same page

It's about competition for places, not even the settled top grade players should feel comfortable or get complacent.

Set high standards on the training field even before you play the opposition.

In the past a few of our guys could coast a bit because there was pretty much no one else to take their spot.

Looking at our potential NSW cup side there should be fear in most positions in the first grade that if they have a poor game there's a guy in NSW cup ready to take their spot.

Good times ahead hopefully

Lauitiiti back in club's colours
Richard Becht
Tue 1st March, 11:31PM

Ali Lauitiiti’s dream of once again playing for the Vodafone Warriors in the NRL takes real shape on Saturday when he plays in the club’s colours for the first time in 12 years.

Now 36, the legendary Lauitiiti has been named in the front row to face the Illawarra Cutters in what used to be known as the New South Wales Cup but is now the Intrust Super Premiership NSW.

It will be a far cry from his glory days with the Vodafone Warriors before joining Leeds and then Wakefield in the English Super League. Instead of playing in front of thousands of expectant fans, Lauitiiti will most likely be watched by a crowd numbering no more than a few hundred.

Having missed the club’s trials last month, Lauitiiti will be playing his first game as a Vodafone Warrior since the last of his 115 NRL outings for the club against Canterbury-Bankstown in Wellington on April 16, 2004.

Back then Stacey Jones was one of his team-mates; this time he’s his coach for this WIN Stadium contest in Wollongong (3.00pm kick-off local times; 5.00pm NZT).

With a staggering tally of more than 400 top level games to his name, Lauitiiti is one of eight players with NRL experience in the line-up to face Illawarra. Fellow front rower Upu Poching has had a brief taste of first-grade football while back rowers Raymond Faitala-Mariner and John Palavi have also had NRL exposure. The outside backs all boast NRL experience with David Fusitua and Ken Maumalo on the wings outside centres Matt Allwood and Konrad Hurrell.

Three NYC-eligible players are included with Ata Hingano at halfback, Erin Clark at hooker and Marata Niukore in the second row. Fullback Tomas Aoake, new signing Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad at standoff and interchange forwards Jazz Tevaga and Paul Tuli have only just graduated from NYC football.

That is unbelievable, I don't know how his body has stood up to that. Even Brad Thorn (one of the greatest ever) can't match that.
His knowledge will be invaluable to the young guys, many of whom would have been just out of nappies when he started.
Should be a great asset for the club.

Aside from my personal dislike for Maumalo at 5 it looks like a good team.

I thought Ika had promise, so don't know why we let him go. Cappy, or maybe it was Elliott, said he was one of our best trainers. Not saying he should make FG, but at least keep him around. Now he's playing against us on the B team.

Mutual release. Was offered an extension but was after game time which he was unlikely to get with three 80 minute 2nd rowers and, at the time, a full propping rotation with Sam Rapira, Ben Matulino, Jacob Lillyman and Suaia Matagi...
