He was shit though
He was aye...but he was making a comeback after a year and a half. And he did have form in NSW cup. And was playing on wing instead of FB where he played in NSW cup. And he was a regular (well as regular as Fish can be between his injuries) on wing last year. And we know he can be of first grade standard. And we need to work out whether to keep him for next year or not. And Manu is gone.

So I hope he will be picked this week

Just to put the nsw cup performance in perspective, Townsend was halfback of the year last year I think. The standard is clearly pretty low for doing well. Wish they played in the QLD cup instead.

Edit: I misread what you wrote before posting.

Ditto for the U20 which is probably worst. A punching bag could defend better than some of these players.

All Blacks wing Waisake Naholo's remarkable recovery from a broken leg has other Kiwi sports stars put their hand up to use traditional Fijian medicine.

Among them Warriors star Shaun Johnson, whose broken angle will keep him from running until at least December.

The Fijian flyer Naholo looked to be out of the World Cup after breaking his leg on debut against Argentina last month.

He was ruled out for three months, but instead of accepting the All Black doctors' word, contacted an uncle in Fiji who specialises in traditional medicine and was told to return to the Pacific island.

Isei Naiova told the Fiji Times he applied traditional leaves known as kawakawarau on Naholo's leg for four days and when he removed them the injury was gone.

It is yet to be confirmed if Naholo's recovery will allow him to make New Zealand's Rugby World Cup squad.

Can't believe I spent 7 months rehabbing my back when I could've just gone to Fiji and had a 4 day kava bender.

I read somewhere that he was out for the rest of the year with a pec injury. I think Mt W. posted it actually.

A pectoral injury has cruelly ended hooker Nathaniel Roache's season. Image | www.photosport.nz

Selection consistency is almost impossible to achieve in the New South Wales Cup and once again Vodafone Warriors coach Stacey Jones has been forced to shuffle his line-up for Saturday’s 22nd-round encounter with North Sydney (3.00pm kick-off local time; 5.00pm NZT).

In a major setback he has lost young hooker Nathaniel Roache, who had his season ended by a pectoral injury in the 68th minute of last Saturday’s 30-28 win over Newtown.

Still NYC eligible, Roache had been impressive in helping the Vodafone Warriors to secure a place among the competition’s top sides.

While losing Roache and Peyroux, Jones has gained Konrad Hurrell in the centres and fullback Glen Fisiiahi is also set to return after missing the Newtown match and back rower Sione Lousi is back after being in the NRL squad last week. He starts at loose forward while NYC–eligible Marata Niukore is in the second row for Peyroux. David Bhana switches to hooker to replace Roache and Northcote’s Levi Norton is on the bench again after making his debut last week.

Surgery for Vatuvei

Manu Vatuvei leaving the field after aggravating his shoulder injury in the Vodafone Warriors' clash against St George Illawarra in Wellington

Vodafone Warriors wing Manu Vatuvei faces a recovery period of five months after a shoulder operation he's scheduled to have this week.

The 29-year-old try-scoring record holder injured his right shoulder late in the June 27 clash against Canberra leaving him sidelined for the club’s matches against Melbourne, the Sydney Roosters and Manly.

He returned against Cronulla on August 1 but was forced off the field when he re-injured the shoulder 60 minutes into the Vodafone Warriors’ enciunter with St George Illawarra on August 8.

Vatuvei’s 12th NRL campaign has ended prematurely with 11 tries in 16 appearances, the fewest games he has played in a season since his second year in the competition in 2005 when he featured in 12 games.

With three games to go, he remains top equal with centre Solomone Kata on the club’s try-scoring list this season.

During the year Vatuvei achieved two more major milestones; first he topped Nigel Vagana’s record for the most tries by a New Zealander in the NRL – he now has 146 tries – and he also became the first player in the competition’s history to score 10 tries or more in 10 consecutive seasons.

While Vatuvei is out for the season, second rower Bodene Thompson has been cleared from the ankle injury which forced him to miss the Vodafone Warriors’ last three games.

That is s a pretty horrendous injury toll when you consider the poor depth of most NRL squads.

Sure it's late in the season so most injuries at this time of year would be season ending. But Vatuvei out for 5 months would have meant it would have rubbed him out at most points of the season. No Kiwis tour now and rehab to get ready for next year.

One positive Ligi Sao was reported after the Manly game to have a knee injury. I see he's been playing; hopefully he close to 100% and not Manly getting him to make it through the season before having surgery. Sure he's their asset no and we can't do much but it will be a bugger to have another player miss a large part of the pre-season.

As per the post above Manu Vatuvei requires surgery and is out for the season. That brings to 7 the amount of players we have gone with season ending injuries. Glen Fisiiahi makes a surprise entry to the rehab list. His third time this season. Also included is Nathaniel Roache who was injured 2 weeks ago.

Can our season get any worse?

On the plus side we got Ryan Hoffman back last week and Bodene Thompson is looking good for a return...

Jacob Lillyman is out for the rest of the season after fracturing his cheekbone. Will require surgery.

Bodene Thompson comes off the rehab list...

INJURY NEWS | Lillyman's surgery
Sun 23rd August, 01:40PM

Prop Jacob Lillyman is booked in for surgery on Wednesday after confirmation he had his cheekbone broken in the opening seconds of the Vodafone Warriors’ 24th-round match against North Queensland at Mount Smart Stadium last night.

The 31-year-old Lillyman was injured in the first tackle of the game when he collided with Cowboys defenders Ethan Lowe, James Tamou and Justin O’Neill bringing the kick-off back.

He is the third Vodafone Warrior to have season-ending surgery in the last month joining halfback Shaun Johnson (ankle) and wing Manu Vatuvei (shoulder).

Lillyman’s injury will leave the Vodafone Warriors without their two first-choice front rowers for next Sunday’s clash against Wests Tigers with Ben Matulino still suspended.

Eight season ending injuries and that doesn't even include the glass brothers, Fish and Fusitua who have still spent more time on the rehab list than the field.

Shit season

If you take the injury toll as it is at the moment it sums up quite a few of our issues.

Laumape hasn't been seen all year. He would have been great to have to put pressure on Kata or give Kata a few weeks back in NSW Cup. Then also for when Hurrell gets dropped.

Henry lasted a few games before going down again early in the season.

Leuluai got moved from the halves into dummy half. Defensively he was good in the middle and provided some nice touches from dummy half. Fortunately we had a experienced replacement.

Johnson well his form was great before the injury but the last few weeks sum up the impact his injury has had.

Vatuvei and Lillyman both injured late in the season. Both serious and would had them out for a while but most injuries at this time of year are season ending. Two experienced players further depleting our squad. Lillyman's injury hurts due to Matulino being suspended.

Fisiiahi and Fusitu'a are similar to Laumape. Both have had exposure to first grade and would have provided competition to our squad. I'd have seen these two competing for the right wing. Fisiiahi hasn't been too bad when paired with Hurrell. Fusitu'a last year provided some great touches and would have been seen in first grade.

Most NRL squads are pretty lean on depth taking these guys out of our squad does hurt. Morse so Johnson and the guys injured earlier in the season or throughout the season. Vatuvei and Lillyman our season was already over it's more rubbing salt into the wound.
