General 2014 - What Do You Want To See?

KerryKatona

What would you like to see happen with this club next season? what needs to change? who needs to lift and who needs to be shown the door?
Are you positive about our chances or are we to be trotted out the same old rebuilding excuses in 2014?

id like to see the warriors winning.
who knows what needs to change, it seems to differ every week.
mateo needs to lift but then he was inconsistent at the eels, showing players the door now doesnt really matter because the warriors would be paying their contracts elsewhere

im beyond negative, after 2011 i thought we had the team. pretty much the same team this year and last and still under performing except for origin season.

like your avatar, matai beaten up with the wooden spoon :)

Bulk Mateo up and use him as a ball-playing prop, forcing him to work for his money. No more hiding out wide or shuffling the ball after running for 3 metres. He'll be instructed to run hard off the ruck and pop an offload when possible. Semi-serious.

I'm hoping Tomkins will bring a heap of much-needed competitive edge and intensity.

I'm also hoping these two young English upstarts will instill some hard, nasty, win at all costs attitude in our young guys.

I'm positive about our chances, but only if Elliot manages to figure out how to use our squad, particularly our spine. The potential is there for a Top 4 team, but how to get that potential is anyone's guess.

Is a consistent team that doesn't give up to much to ask for.;)

I think we have improved from last year and got over the confidence issues the team started the year with.

We need to start the year better then we have the last few years. We are never going to win a premiership struggling at the start of the year to pull it around and limp into the finals feeling lucky to get there.

I'd like to see some attitude and hunger week in week out a flat week or two out of the 26 is ok but we need to up more often then not.

Some semblance of a game plan; if the team loses and you can see a plan that's better then 13 individuals playing like a team of who just met each other and hour before kick off. If there is a plan at least you can say the plan was wrong not what the hell were they trying to do like we see some weeks.

I'd be reviewing out top 4 props; I though a lot of last year and the start of this year were because of injuries to our best props and being a prop short. This year they haven't aimed up and been run over the last few weeks particularly so now I'm thinking it might be time to bring in someone bigger.

The English boys are also starting to look to be smarter signings with what we have seen the last few weeks.

We have recruited well so I am overly positive for next year hopefully the recruits bring in what they were brought for.

Bakuya - hard running back rower; runs good lines and capable of a lot of minutes on the field.

Townsend - implements structure, good kicking game and excellent goal kicker. Will be hungry to cement a first grade spot. Hopefully he helps us apply pressure and gets repeat sets.

Tomkins - gives us speed and another x factor and is use to winning; good support play and we can throw the oppositions moves back at them with our fullback coming in as a decoy or providing numbers out wide.

/rant over thanks for putting up with me its been a long year.:)

Id be in the market for a mongrel in that front row. We need someone who is looking to tear the throat out of the opposing forward pack. Combine that with someone lighting a fire under Packer and Matulino and we could be in buisness

It is interesting that people (including me) are feeling quite negative about this season to date. At the start of the season there was poll for people to predict the Warriors ladder position for this year. From memory most had us just outside the eight, which is where we are.

I hate the manner in which the players are playing at the moment, but I think you would have to rate this season as a success compared to where we were at at the end of last year.

We have made some great signings for next year (but I still think we need two props and a wing), the attitude seems to be changing, (especially in defense - imho it is actually improving from last year) for the most part the dead weight of the club is being cut from the roster and I believe (others will disagree) that we have a coach who has a plan for the future. This year was always about rebuilding and I think we are doing that.

Next year is VERY exciting, can't wait.

Bukuya is a great signing imo

When the chips were down and nothing was happening boom Matagi burst through the line.
Exactly what Bukuya will offer outwide.

He is really quick for backrow, plenty of punch too.

Warriors Players off contract in 2014
Nathan Friend, Kevin Locke, Pita Godinet, Russell Packer, Jacob Lillyman, Sam Rapira, Suaia Matagi, Charlie Gubb, David Bhana, Albert Vete, Siliva Havili, Raymond Faitala-Mariner, John Palavi, Sione Lousi

With Packer, Lillyman, Matagi, Gubb, Lousi and Rapira coming off contract, I think it will be the perfect time to be looking for a big bopping forward. Any other first grade signings depend on how well certain players perform imo.

Looking at who's off-contract, any particular players catch your eyes?

I think you're right in that next year "should" be an improvement again on what we have seen this year. I guess from my point of view it's about consistency, if we see some improvement (and we did) I would expect us to maintain that level as a minimum. For whatever reason we don't seem to be able to do that.
I'm sure ME has figured it out and we will see the things we have been asking for delivered

Get a couple of nutcases from the crowd at a MIllwall FC game, put Warriors jumpers on them and tell them to run hard at anything on the field not wearing Warriors colours. They might not stay on the field for long but at least we'd have some hard buggers on the field for a few minutes ;)

Jeez there"s some talent listed there. What about James Graham and Sam Moa? And maybe Josh Morris with Mick Ennis to help with talking to the refs?

Some defensive steel would be good to see next year as well. I miss the days where you'd be watching a Warriors game and then bang "ooooooooooch that's gotta hurt" then a few plays later bang.

Yeah for this we need roster changes. We don't have many aggressive players. Matagi should help once he gets in the swing of things. Saw him smash someone versus Penrith, and thought sweet: taste of things to come.

I am getting a bit old for that sort of thing.

Some Luck with Injury.

Sounds Foolish after 18 years of this crap but I see a first ever premiership in the next two years.

I just think they have thrown together the right ingredients in their Roster to make massive changes to the areas we lack currently.

I hear the Call out for more Punch in the Forwards but Most of us would agree that if swapped out Skinny's like Todd and Benry ( Done Bukuya runs better than those two ) and had more size and agression in the pack generally ( there is a 108 kg 34km per hour off the bench wrecking ball being wasted on Wing ) the answers are within already.

Give Matangi or Sam Rapira or Matulino one of the Secound Row rotation spots.

Bring in Packer at Prop

8 Matangi
10 Packer
11 Matulino relief with Vatuvei
12 Bukuya 80 mins
13 Mannering 80 mins

14 ( Hooker )
15 Vatuvie
16 Lillyman
17 Rapira ( )

Faitali-Mariner and Vete need to be resigned quickly before the circling sharks take them away. They have class and stars of the future written all over them.
