Draw came out today. Interesting that they are now having these games as the main curtain raiser to First Grade. I like that, but hope for our club that every so often the Juniors play that role too especially against teams we played in last year's finals or something.

Therefore the Eden park games would look like;
12:30pm NYC
2:45pm NSWCup
5:00pm NRL

I'd rather watch NSW Cup than NYC, so that change suits me. Also, going from the draw - is this team officially called NZ Warriors too?

Yeah that's what I think too. I'm happy for them to be the game before, but I do hope for certain features, the Juniors play just before too. I guess that will happen when the Reserve Grade is playing away for the weekend.

Great to see the Reserve Grade elevated to its rightful position ahead of the NYC. Still keen on watching the juniors though.

Wish they would call the Reserve Grade team the Auckland Warriors or something different. Typing out NZ Warriors Reserve Grade is too long. NZWRG is just as dumb...

are they still having an open trial in 2014?
Geez I hope so dox. Thats my traditional start to the League season. Always good to open it up as well. Never know who's going to put their hand up...

Hey just had a thought - it would be cool if the NZWRG (just for you MT Well) used the super cool looking Under 20s playing strip just with a diff badge on it. Create cohesion between the grades and differentiate the top team.

what's in a name aye.

The New Zealand Warriors Reserve grade side.......anything with New Zealand in it is too long to type out in full.

NZW(B)

New Zealand Warriors Players Not Quite Good Enough For First Grade Or First Grade Players Coming Back From Injury Or Extended First Grade Squad Members Or Juniors Been Given A Step Up Or Players Who Should be Playing First Grade But Can't Travel Because Of 'Legal' Reasons.

Or perhaps I'll just use NZW Res.

Cool idea, but the simple blue and white V is my favourite - I personally hope they keep those colours and call them Auckland.

So will the reserve grade team have a New Jersey to fall in line with first grade and the under 20's ???

Secondly , with reserve grade now the curtain raiser...will that always mean 3 games in a row every weekend ??

Not really. Saturday games will be preceded by the NSWCup but Sunday games will be preceded by the U20s. The draw doesn't always align itself with the NSWCup being at the same venue as the Warriors every week, but yes where possible most Warriors matches will have three games and I am looking forward to that a lot.

I think it is 6 times this year the Warriors will get a triple header - which is the most af any team, and I think all of them will be Saturday afternoon games. Lets hope Sky does the decent thing and gives us all of them.

Yeah, I hope SKY show 90% of our triple features. I love the midday starts and getting the atmosphere going before you get in the car and arrive at the game.

A bit different for me. Since I can't get near Auckland for the games, I developed a bit of a ritual for the triple headers.

I would start with the Vulcans. I would sit in the spa pool in the conservatory with the TV screaming and have a couple of quiets, only getting out at half time to de-prune and make room for the next beer.

The Juniors would come next. I would lie on the couch in the beaming sun (yes, we do get sun in Invercargill, it just gets blocked out sometimes by the odd raincloud) in the conservatory and have a few more slightly louder drinks. (The only time the conservatory is a problem is during the occassional rain storm. It can get pretty noisy with rain pelting down on a clearlite roof, then its back inside and take possession of the family TV.)

For the main event, I would take my first grade position close to the TV with my current latest team jersey on (will have to be the signed 2013 Wellington jersey this year) and have some really loud brewskis, and hurl some inappropriate language at TV.

I would far rather go to the games, but you have to make do, as best as you can.

For the Nines, I am planning to fire up the 120 inch projector in the functional-but-still-a-work-in-progress 20 seat movie theatre, with a few mates, and some beers. I will have the conservatory TV on for the less commited spectators, and wives, so they know when not to disturb the viewing. They will have to be ready for the drinks breaks, as there will be limited time for the inevitable toilet dash and run to the fridge. I'm trying to come up with some interesting games or pools to go along with the non-Warriors games to give a bit of incentive. I don't think drinking games will be a great idea, as I may not succeed in seeing all of the games. Any suggestions from anyone would be great.

Next year, the Nines excursion is already booked. We have accomodation, just have to sort travel. It will be my first visit to Auckland.
