that is what the Vulcans should look like though, not out first grade team. Let the Juniors work their way up through the system.. juniors>vulcans>1st grade. Go outside the Warriors and recruit seasoned pros to fill the gaps in first grade next year. Unfortunately, as someone else posted, theyve probably left it too late and there wont be much available to choose from

4 would be Ropati

6 someone new << second fiddle to Shaun Johnson
7 Johnson

I am getting quite tired of this opinion. I hear it constantly. Someone to make up numbers and follow Johnson is NOT what we need.

Johnson is no where near ready to lead a team around the park. He has been a major issue over the last several weeks. We blame everyone in the team/squad/club/organisation but Shaun Johnson. The kid spends 90% of games hiding from his job. He spends 5 minutes sidestepping, shimmying and bombing Manu and then just shuts down for the rest of the game, assuming he has done enough. If that is our halfback, we need a SENIOR halves partner to show him what he needs to do. The guy has bought into the hype that this nation of Johnson fans has been preaching for so long. He needs to come back to earth and realise he is still the kid with all of the potential, and not the superstar he has promised. Sure he is young and inexperienced, but unless he steps up massively and really takes the role seriously, we can't rely on him as our go-to man.

I want to see a Benji type of game out of him. Take the game by the scruff and give us some new options, not just individual brilliance. I want to see him handling the ball 2 or 3 times a set, kicking strategically (not just bombing Manu, he ain't an old Stacy Jones, he can't be out of ideas already), putting players away, and getting us repeat sets. Until he starts doing this, we don't need a junior halves partner, cos he is it.

Don't get me wrong (though I know I will be branded a hater for stating this opinion), I like the kid, but he isn't the second coming yet, and he isn't doing enough. He also isn't taking his share of the blame, because for some reason it is a crime in this country to have any negative opinions of Shaun Johnson.

If Johnson wakes up his ideas in the off-season and starts getting involved, then by all means we should get a junior partner to compliment him, but until he changes his work ethic and takes responsibility for the play-making then we are going to need someone a little more special than Leuluai.

Six Mount Smart triple-headers in Vulcans draw

The Auckland Vulcans are set for an exciting year after it was announced the side will link up with the Vodafone Warriors and its NYC team for six triple-headers at home this season.

Round 4 (April 1) will mark the first afternoon of non-stop entertainment with all three sides taking on Penrith, and its respective NYC and NSW Cup teams, in successiv...e matches at Mt Smart Stadium.

Wellington's Westpac Stadium will set the stage for another action packed round as the Vulcans take on Wyong before the Warriors' sides tackle the Bulldogs.

The Vulcans will open their 2013 VB NSW Cup season in an away fixture against Manly before returning to kick off their home campaign against last year's finalists, Newtown, at Mount Smart No 1 on March 16.

The final round robin game is scheduled for September 7, an away match against North Sydeny, which follows the last home game against Mounties on August 31.

Love triple headers. 6 of them this year. Good to see our reserve grade start to get more attention. Should always be like that.

Dont know about you guys but with the depth and talent we have at the club now Im expecting a top 4 placing this season at least.

Ropati should be captain of this team IMO. He is an experienced and respected player and a great team/club man. He is clearly not up to first grade anymore so we should just use him as captain of the Vulcans for the whole season unless we have a horrific injury crisis and all hands on deck are needed. It gives him responsibility and a new challenge in the twilight of his career and he can be a role model for the young guys coming up through the vulcans.

Will have to go to the welly bulldogs triple, i think jro should have a spot in the 17 potentialy as cover in the mould of the huntley hurricane. Give him a few rounds of this before casting him back to the vulcans we need experience to bring through the youths in our system.

Problem is though that anybody who's anybody in the Warriors has Ropati in their starting 17. Its that very experiance you mention that will ensure that he does make it. IMO Konrad will continue his career in the Vulcans. Looks great in that jersey dont you think...

Just pulling your chain. I have no doubt your 100% correct. In fact the only thing you maybe wrong about is the fact that he may play in the Vulcans full stop. If Elliot sees what Bluey did during the last trials then he'd probably throw Konnie in too. I went to the trial last year against the Titans at North Harbour and Konnie and Shaun Johnson were both sublime...

Awesome can't wait, about time the Vulcans played alongside the 20's and NRL side more often..6 triple headers yes, you beauty.! To me Vulcans always had a scaterring of talent either coming or going and stitched up from all parts but I hope this season the players not required for NRL action get a chance to build some combinations in Vulcans to keep them humming. As an example, if Leuluai/Johnson always selected in NRL it would be Godinet/Siejka in Vulcans..Steve Rapira/Matagi/Gubb/Mara/Havili,Sam Lousi/Henry/Palavi/Ikahihifo,Taukeiaho.. Vulcans could have a good team.

aye ?? round 4 on easter monday the top side is playing the cowboys, not panthers...so no triple header that day.

I wonder if the Vulcans will be glad to have a former international winger playing for them...
