Player Bio

Exciting teenaged hooker Braelan Marsh will be the third son of a former Warrior on the club’s roster next season after being signed on a three-year contract.

The 18-year-old son of brilliant former One New Zealand Warriors hooker PJ Marsh had an outstanding season for the Redcliffe Dolphins in Queensland’s Mal Meninga Cup (under-19) competition this year.

Helping the Dolphins to the grand final, he made the competition’s team of the year at hooker and was named the overall Mal Meninga Cup player of the year.

His signing follows the recent acquisition of promising 21-year-old winger Haizyn Mellars, son of Vince Mellars (Warrior #106) who was one of Marsh’s teammates when they were at the Warriors in the early 2000s.

They’ll join 20-year-old halfback Jett Cleary who is having his first season with the Warriors. Father Ivan Cleary (Warrior #73) and Marsh (Warrior #96) were teammates in the club’s first grand final side in 2002.

“It’s a great story for us being able to bring sons of former players to the club their fathers played for in their careers,” said One New Zealand Warriors general manager recruitment, development and pathways Andrew McFadden.

“PJ loves the club and reached out to us about Braelan. He’s had a fantastic season in the Mal Meninga Cup and will bring lots of upside for us.”

Educated at St Brendan’s College in Yeppoon, Marsh played all 11 games and scored four tries for the Dolphins in a Mal Meninga Cup side which included another former Warrior’s son in halfback Noah Fien.

Until now the Warriors have never had an instance of a father and son playing for the club at NRL level.

Previously Warrior #51 Kevin Iro’s son KL, now with Cronulla Sutherland, represented the Warriors at under-20 and NSW Cup level while Warrior #18 Joe Vagana’s son Isaiah, who’s with Wakefield in the Super League, was a regular in both grades as well while he also played in an NRL trial.

Warrior #55 Ali Lauitiiti’s daughter Ivana made her NRLW debut this season, the first case of a father and daughter making their top-level debut for the club (and both scored tries in their maiden appearances).
