Politics 🤡 Donald Trump

This has been said forever but unfortunately for the Greens, people grow up and start living in the real world.

NZ first will die when Winston does.
Younger people seem to be more aware of the lies that governments sell which is why we see the two major parties so stagnant. Their voter bases aren’t growing and left and right blocks seem to have voters come and go from the parties making up those blocks. Just like mainstream media, these political parties are dying and ones with a message like that of a cleaner world like the greens gravitate towards will become more and more popular

So untrue.
People don't vote green because they think like you. Plus greed.
Greens votes in general elections:
  • 2002: 7.0%
  • 2005: 5.3%
  • 2008: 6.7%
  • 2011: 11.1%
  • 2014: 10.7%
  • 2017: 6.2–6.3%
  • 2020: 7.8%
  • 2023: 11.6%
Peaked 15 years ago and haven’t made any ground since.

Those young greens have gotten older so can’t have kept their votes green…

Are we reading the same figures? The peak appears to be in 2023, an increase of 4.5% from their 2011 number
11.1% vs 11.6%. 12 years later. If all those 11% stayed voting Green and another 12 years of young voters coming in Green they should be about 20% by now…

Unless they don’t carry on voting Green when they get in the real world 😜

Do you have the equivalent figures for National?
Both main parties have declining support from high 40’s down to low 30’s. Smaller parties have benefitted.

This conversation was replying to ‘greens challenging them in time because of younger people gravitating and if voters stick with them that base grows’.

I just don’t think young people stick to the Greens as they grow up, get families, houses, careers and peoples priorities change.

I see the Greens as very ideological but highly impractical in reality.

But anyway this is the Trump thread so my thrust was we need stronger middle parties (National and Labour) that appeal to all people so we don’t get the extreme shock jock type politicians like Trump being normalised. Act, Greens and māori party are all extremes that have a purpose but the tail (extremes) can’t wag the dog (middle voters).

There are strong middle parties. Not just in NZ but most WestDems. They are broad church Centrist Parties. They are failing the people.
