Sports Boxing

You got me sold. I'd buy the PPV.
I think he could do really well in the boxing world. First things first is learning all the intricacies, then channelling that aggression in the places and times when to unleash it. I think there’d be a few excited about what they see, it’ll be interesting to see if he gets a hiding or someone rocks him whether he goes into his shell?

The current boxing world things can move quickly too. If he has a viral moment the fast track can happen quickly.

I actually think Gallen is the ideal fight because he’s had enough victories to show he’s a capable boxer. Then maybe cross SBW off? Then head into true proven boxers

Glad he didn’t come to the Warriors as it turns out. If he was 100% committed to delivering NZ its first title, cool. Money’s his driver and that’s cool too, his window is limited to earn
Gallen doesn't want the fight and is commenting Curtis Scott should take the fight...

One of the Burgess boys got a bit in his face after his fight, all looked a bit wwe. He said he needs to pick on someone his own size. Curtis Scott far too undersized to face him I reckon? Not sure how handy Tom or George Burgess are whichever one it is are with their gloves?

Fair enough. I think most footballers shoud avoid that fight.

Gallen avoiding it fair enough. He's old and did his little stint in boxing. As much as he was hated as a footballer and people wanted to see him punched in the face at some point you need to let guys retire. The SBW fight was after a long layoff due to retirement.

If NAS wants to make a go of boxing he needs to keep busy, get consistent fights. It will be interesting to see how well his cardio holds up or how well he paces himself when he gets past a few rounds.

I saw a post David Tua might be entering one of the Dan Hooker 1 min fight tournaments. Chance to win $100k.

Besides the post so don't know much details on it. A bit mixed on this.

If he needs the money it is sad as the money he earned from boxing should have been enough to retire and enjoy himself. Yes, there is a bit more to where his money went. Still you would have hoped the fights after the Barry court case may have helped.

On the other hand you see older guys overseas cashing in. If he's been getting in shape to lose some weight and wants to do something competitive than fair enough.

You would think he would make more than $100k by doing a ‘comeback’ fight against a celebrity (NAS, SBW, Gallen, etc) in a Tyson style match.

Sad story around his finances.

I would advise David Tua to try to make money off his brand or see if he has any profitable intellectual properties that he could leverage. Or if he really needed money he could run his own event in which he is merely the figurehead.

Like "The David Tua invitational"

Or "Tua Island".

Ha this is quite fun having a one man think tank

Not related to the above posts.
But recently tried to log into the old "Nzboxchat" formerly the old Nz David tua boxing forum.
I know Diehard sometimes jumps on here but wanted to say cheers for all the admin and keeping it running for decades.
Hopefully not all is lost there.

Diehard here. Yep, after 25 years I felt it was time to retire it. I loved every post and discussion. Thanks for thinking of me. Now I have even more time to devote to the Wahs!

Anyone see Deontay Wilder's rant about Fury. Instead of hyping his fight with Chisora.

He wants Fury to sue him for defamation as he has the facts. Also where everyone else has evidence he has the artifacts. Ok, that could be a slip of the tongue while ranting.

The best while he's ranting Chisora puts a box of tissues in front of him.😆 Not sure if the artifacts comment is in this video but it has a good view of Chisora grabbing him the tissues.

I was going to comment that I thought he was don't alright as he had his own gym but just googled and it's permanently closed...

Anyone see the Moses Itauma vs Jermaine Franklin fight?

I can't recall the last time I've seen Franklin fight to compare him size wise to other heavyweights. Itauma did look bigger than him so I'l take the commentators word that he's looking more like a heavyweight.

His hand speed is great for a heavyweight.

A nasty KO had him down out on his feet with his hands down looking like he was about to slowly hit the mat. Then another shot.

Highlights here. KO around 5:55.

Nasty nasty combination of speed and power.

Can't wait to see him tested by the big boys, he should fight Joshua, AJ is way too slow for him.

Didn't see much footwork in this fight though....you might not want to stand in front of AJ (having said that his head movement is great and he is fighting Southpaw so he wasn't there to dance, he wanted to slip shots and lay Franklin out. Job done beautifully)

Hopefully closing it was his own decision. Either business wasn't great and he closed it before it became too much of a burden. Or what I'd prefer he didn't feel like working there anymore and decided he wanted to do something else.

It's a real shame he finished his career having years out of the ring due to court proceedings and then having to fight to get some earnings back. Before the court case he was fighting to get back to a title shot.

Tua, Barry and the other guy being in business is fine. But it seemed like his boxing earnings were funding it all. It should have been a case of Tua having 5-10 million set aside for himself first so he has something to fall back on after boxing or if the investments fail.
