Playing the devil's advocate...

1 - it takes a lot of resource to set up assisted channels of purchase, and that would be on Ticketmaster rather than the club. Simply not worth it for a one-off event and the small numbers that would utilise it.

2 - bays being blocked out for sponsors is a rumour at this stage. Everyone I know who got seats got them in prime spots after being on at midday, so I wouldn't take this as gospel.

3 - very case by case. Mine are significantly better. You could also specify which stand/section you wanted to buy in.

4 - the media are probably as much to blame for this as anyone, with their endless articles about Eden Park vs Mt Smart. I think it was pretty clear it was always going to be MSS this round, or EP the next.

I completely agree it sucks for the small number of fans that have missed out or been inconvenienced, but the system seems to have worked as intended for the most part.
I will join the devils advocate, I have sat in many places at MSS.

The only seats I didn't like were in the Mad Butchers Lounge 🤔 🤔 , and the low bleachers behind the players seats, although you did get a good view of the players!!!

I have been in the nosebleeds, and bleachers at both ends in both east and west stands.

I haven't been in the south stand.

I have always seen the game, although my usual seats are in the middle of Bay 39, quite low down, and they are the best IMO.

Back last century I saw an amazing test against the Kangaroos at MSS. I was in a nosebleed in the West Stand, down past the 20 metres line at the northern end. I saw one of SK's best tries.

So I think anybody who gets a seat will see the game, and thinking of you CityGirl, you should see plenty from where you are as well.

If I compare that with Eden Park, the only place you can get a decent view there is in the south stand (the old number one), about half way up. The rst is just crap.

This is going to be a truly special atmosphere ladies and jellybeans (as a wise man once said).

I know a couple of Knights fans flying over for it, it'll be interesting to see how they reckon it compared to their ground last week.
IME they are great fans, very knowledgeable. I don't know what they will think if we have too many Bandwagoners.

I can remember way back last century when the ground was full of bandwagoners. The Mad Butcher took classes of how to react in the game...we were a quiet crowd at times

At least we've got the chance to be pissed about the seating, hasn't happened in a while 😂
That's true. It's, um, a bit disorientating to see Warriors fans pissed off about the f'n quality of the f'n nosebleed seats in a Semi-FInal.

Like you're at a restaurant rather than McDonald's: "Look, I know I normally have a Fillet O' Fish Combo for dinner, but this Wagu Beef is freakin' cold! CAN YOU PLEASE HEAT THE GODAMN WAGU BEEF!?"

Normally, now is "Kill The Coach" or "Kill The Coach If He's Still Shit After (Insert Arbitary Number Of Games) Next Season" Time and the "Sack so-and-so" thread is at worst up and running or at best posters are saying they'll start one after First Trial Game next season....

Below is the issue and message from the club:

The 2023 Finals Series is run completely by the NRL. No NRL clubs get to orchestrate in the process. The ticketing procedures, venues, pricing, and protocols are all set out by them. The only job we have had with the onsale of this game was to send out emails to our members with FAQ’s that have been advised by the NRL.

The NRL advised, that due to the small capacity of Mt Smart Stadium and guidance to them from ticketmaster, that Member Same Seat redemption would not be available. The NRL block out a handful of bays (again, couldn’t tell you which ones as we aren’t involved in the ticketing), which they acknowledged would disadvantage members who would normally sit in those seats.

The NRL is also the party that created the 6 ticket per transaction rule due to our small capacity. Which im sure you can imagine has disadvantages our members who hold more than 6 seats on their accounts. Which is again been another nightmare for us to try and trouble shoot.

We have field calls and emails all day yesterday when the member presale began at 12pm NZT. With zero capacity to assist with any issues that our members were having because we had been given no access or authority besides a list of our members AAN numbers.

This is so dumb. What's the difference between members getting their normal seats for the same price as random strangers, regardless of capacity?

The "guidance from Ticketmaster" line is very telling, sounds like Ticketmaster IT couldn't be arsed putting in a solution to do the above at short notice.

Ticketmast definitely have the ability to manage the same seat redemption but probably decided to push against it because of resourcing and the effort involved.
There was a big music festival that went on sale pretty much directly in the Warriors game on sale.

My brother reckons his mate has auckland rugby tickets and gets first option on those seats for any rugby, even tests.....now there's an idea

I can understand why members are upset at not being able to buy tickets for their normal seats, but you've also got to remember..... with your memberships you are buying those seats only for the regular season games.... nowhere is there anything stating that you would have the right to buy tickets for those same seats during finals games.

I know it sucks but when a member buys a ticket, that's what they agree too.

Priority access to play offs is a selling point - with same seat redemption a possibility

And other clubs do have same seat redemption.

The data for the seating plan of season members is known by the club in March and both Mt Smart and Eden Park are both ticketed by the same ticket agent.
So its only a resourcing issue for Ticketmaster that it was not provided in this instance.
That or they wanted to block out bays for commercial partners.

I few things were inexcusable with the process -

Memberships that are more thank 6 tickets/seats missed out on their entitlement due to their 6 ticket limit. (Members who only have 1 seat could be 6)

No resource was provided by the NRL to help our older membership base to secure tickets.

Same seat redemption could become a really valuable marketing tool for season memberships... (hopefully our next home playoff isn't 14 years away!)

Why not just allow the number of tickets your season ticket allows?

Members with 1 could only buy 1 at the presale? Why 6?

As I understand it though it’s the same rules for every team in the finals but just seems weird.
I think it's probably a resourcing issue with the NRL but seems inexcusable given they are aware these games happen in the scheduling.

I have heard Broncos have had a pre pre sale to secure their membership seats.
The wording around same seat redemption is vague - there really isn't a valid excuse for not providing it in Auckland.

The ticket limit was different between games (8 for the Panthers vs Warriors game for instance)

If you are going to the game and live in the Warkworth area, the Mahu Express is putting on a bus @ $45 per person if they can get the numbers above 12 people..
