Johnson debuted because Brett Seymour was out injured with a fractured cheekbone..

Johnson was a child prodigy superstar who was never gonna be rushed and replace incumbents till his defence was ready first, this has been discussed a lot this year by the like of Stacey Jones in interviews as to why Johnsons defence is so good this season.

Fans on onetribe the old forum were berating Cleary for holding Johnson back. With Volkman it is the same arguments now.

Volkman is not playing NRL because he is not hitting his Defensive KPI's and playing him could wreck him.

You are missing the point.

No, I understand your point. Just adding relevant information :)

I'd support 3 big calls to be made this game

1. Drop Jazz - it's no reflection on him or his prospects for next season but he just isn't where he needs to be with such a disrupted season. I can't find a spot for him in my best 17

2. Kosi in for Montoya

3. Montoya to centre for Berry (Swap Pompey to right centre where he played earlier in the year).

1. CNK
2. DWZ
3. Pompey
4. Montoya
5. Kosi
6. TMM
7. SJ

8. AFB
9. Egan
10. Bunty
11. Curran
12. Niukore
13. Tohu

14. Walker
15. Ford
16. Barnett
17. Ale
Agree with the first 2 points.. 50/50 on replacing Berry tho..

My thoughts:

Sironen v Lussick:
Sironen does not have utility value. He is a terrible second rower who falls off tackles. Would be a target. Good dummy half service though - better than Lussicks. Lussick is the better defender, which is weird for a little bloke.
I don't think I would pick either for this game. It's gonna have to be Jazz/Walker at hooker for some minutes. Lussick needs to concentrate on passing at training.

Curran versus Ford starting:
Curran all day, every day. Less errors and altho he had a disappointing start to the season he has been everywhere in the last couple of games. They have the same enthusiasm but Curran's comes with less errors and he is more dangerous on attack.

Montoya versus Kosi.
Montoya is all effort but is in a form slump. Have loved his game these last 2 years but it's time to bring in Kosi. Kosi caught everything that came his way until he got injured. Effort off the ball is a work on tho.

We need st least one more big body on the bench. Would probably go go Bunty with his excellent defence.

If SJ doesn't play, Volkman has to. I liker his effort in the Dolphins game. He tried things other than the short passing we employed against Penrith. We need to play a little more expensively so as not to become too one dimensional. The short passing game is a strength tho.

CNK
DWZ
Berry
Pompey
Kosi
TMM
Johnson/Volkman
AFB
Egan
Bunty/Barnett
Niukore
Curran
Harris

Walker
Jaz
Barnett/Bunty
 Ford
This is it.. Other than do we really think Jazz is up to it?? With that bench couldn't we throw in a more attacking option???

Pick the strongest team available. Our finals really begin this week, no more spare lives. It's do or die. This could be our final game of the year so no use thinking about wk 3. That means SJ needs to play IMO, don't want hear any what ifs or buts if we lose.
If anything them knights will be a bunch of tired boys... 90min hard out bash and bruise against the Raiders .. then recover, prepare and travel across the ditch to a hostile MSS crowd. Could be too much for them (I hope)
However I still think back to Webbys comments after preseason that we're a class prop short and still at least a year away.... anyway regardless of the outcome, it's been a hell of a year...

Only problem with Volkman coming in late for Johnson is the fact that Volkman is playing NSW cup in Sydney on Saturday arvo ( the game before the warriors big show )

Which means he will have flown to Sydney on Friday with the NSW cup team.

Meaning a decision will be made as to whether SJ is actually playing : Thursday night and volkman misses the trip to Sydney.

So Volkman will likely get named in both teams.

That's not the future.

The future is the Broncos. Young, big, fast and debuting early. Huge depth and huge impact players. We have NO impact players in the current side.

Warriors have little to none of that at the moment and that's why they can't win the NRL title. If they don't inject the young guys into the team next year then highly likely they will not be top 4 either.

There are young talent at the Warriors that can make a difference in the years to come. Warriors will need to debut them though like the Broncos did.
I agree with you but unfortunately bringing youngsters through into grade in NZ is totally different.
Aussie junior footy is far more advanced and intense.
The same reason we rarely produce quality young halves.

Unless the Storm improve a lot we are on the tough side of the draw.

I still think the winner of this game could still upset the Broncos. It will be tough but the winner of this game would be going into the preliminary final pretty battle-hardened.

The Knights are on a winning streak and got through a tough game against the Raiders. We were on a winning streak and are coming off a tough game against the defending champions.

On the other side, it's hard to see the winner of the Storm/Roosters game upsetting the Panthers.

Somebody needs to G walshy up, get him raging on a night out on the bags

SJ plays imo. No doubt in my mind. He had a ‘niggle’ in his calve, and knowing we had an extra life, it simply wasn’t worth the risk knowing there was a second chance. If last week was a sudden death, SJ plays. Now that it is a sudden death, at home, with an extra weeks rest, he plays. Even if he was to further injure his calve, and this is a real possibility, if he doesn’t play our chances drop dramatically. Newcastle will be without Hastings & potentially Fitzgibbon, (nrl physio report), which means Clune will come in (inexperienced) & likely another rookie in dylan Lucas (or hetherington). I’m confident & Aussie media are tipping a warriors victory too. Saturday can’t come soon enough, got our tickets secured, mates flying up from around NZ to watch us move into a prelim.

SJ playing.

Confirmed.

- technically not confirmed.

Anyone know how much training SJ has been doing for the last 3 weeks since he played?

Those expecting a prime fit and ready player are gonna be sorely disappointed, just like youse expecting a win against Penrith then crying after 😭

I am fine without SJ

This is a team sport

Confidence, good bench rotation and a huge MSS crowd will get us through

My fear is all youse ripping into SJ and Webby if he shows up underdone and we lose..

Emotional bunch 😉

Proof will be in the pudding today, if Volk is named on the extended bench there's still a world of doubt around SJ. No Volk, SJ is a certainty for Saturday. Sweating on not seeing Volk listed, would also be such a shame for him to sit out their qualifier and forgo a chance at Cup glory next week.
