If gun laws were more relaxed there in Victoria would we be talking about a bigger problem rather than machettes? If gun laws were tighter in the US would we have less overall murders but a larger number of knife related ones?
Yes. yes. But all that does is conclusively prove it’s not the weapon.

Despite being proficient in a LOT of firearms, pistols, bolt actions, semi, shotguns, machines guns, I see them as a tool and l actually think there should be more restrictions on weapons in the US.

Oh I agree, its the people. What I'm saying is that they use what is more readily available or easier to access.

I honestly don't think we are far off it either here to be honest.

I mean there is certainly a move further away from discussion, debate, talking and listening, agreeing to disagree, conceding a point. It appears that supporters of the left and right, however you define those, is more and more heading towards I am right, you are wrong, regardless of the argument put up. When it starts deteriorating in to a shouting match "I'm saying my point louder than you are so I'm right" or if I repeat it enough you'll accept I'm right, name calling and insults, or it gets to pushing and shoving, or taking signs, flags, etc (as we have seen in protests and counter protest recently) or as we have seen here in this instance, real violence where someone gets injured or killed - you have to ask yourself if you actually have the right view, I mean if you can't counter someone's argument or at least meet it, shouldn't you have a think about that rather than resort to one or more of the above? I'm not perfect in this regard either by the way, but I've also never agreed on 100% of things with anyone I have meet. I was once told if you do, you are either naive, brain washed or someone is trying to sell you something.

I am glad we have reasonably tight gun laws and controls in this country. If anything they probably should be tighter.
Surely though, and I do mean this respectfully, it's clear that there's a hard right turn going on around the world, in particular western countries, and with that comes the rise in bigotry, racism and hatred. Combined with the rise in individualistic selfishness and the amplification of the internet, and backed by those with an interest in breaking down of community and democracy those on here can see the clear pathway to what we're seeing now?

It's really not the left.

The key is understanding why it’s happening and mounting a better case. Adapting, getting a better message, changing tour policies, discarding what’s not popular.

Not shooting people that you can’t out debate…

Before I read everyone’s comments, was there anyone in the forum In Support of what happened today? I know reddit & bluesky is riddled with it
Absolutely not! What a disgusting act of violence. You can disagree with him, but to kill him, is just disgusting.

My friend sent me the video and I didn't know what it was, and I cant take seeing that back, I actually feel sick.

Anybody here who hasn't seen it, please dont!

I think people should see it, at least the blurred version, to see the reality of the situation. When they popped up on my feed I had the same response & I can’t get it out of my head. But we need to face the reality of what the righteous left are doing. This will be a line in the sand moment, the conservative & republican Twitter has had enough. This could end really ugly, 24hours after the Ukrainian girls footage was released

I have to politely disagree, we have become way too desensitized to this sort of stuff.

We do not need to see the last moments of a man or women's death, and for what!?

Seeing him die like that has not made me feel good about a wolrd I have brought my children into.

I know bad things happen, but to have that out there for all to see and comment on that particular video is inhumane, and disrespectful to his wife and children.

Im not knocking you, this is just sad.

Ok cool. Anyone who praises a young father being murdered, whether you agree with their ideology or not, I’m done with.
Exactly, it's pretty gross that anyone praises it. Very similar to the whole Melissa and Mark Hortman assassination that happened in june. Feels like poltically movitovated violence is becoming normalized for the americans. No matter what side your on, it seems like both are getting shot at. And the people spouting retoric about payback/deserved are only gonna make it sprial all the deeper.

I still recall my ex wife calling me unsure of what she was watching and seeing the Christchurch Mosque shooter shoot victims point blank when he streamed it, it certainly does play on the mind. This is extremism and it lives on both sides of what people call the left and the right and it’s an illness

Nah I agree with that statement man. I just don’t think we should hide away from the reality. It happened, and I guess Im not entirely sure I would have the same level of disgust seeing a young man’s life be taken. I understand it’s a different perspective but seeing it happened has made me so angry, so sad, at the reality that we now live in fear based on speaking our truths. Whether he was right or wrong, he was entitled to his opinion. And just like seeing the Ukrainian girls footage elicited the same response. I’m mortified by it but it painted it in a different light seeing it happen, it almost didn’t feel real.

Unfortunately I think this spirals. People have had enough.
