NRL Gold Coast Titans

NZWarriors.com

Titans have just signed Harley Smith-Shields.. I think the Titans are going to be awesome next season but I've got no idea wtf they are up to with how many (good and young) outside backs they have

fb: AJ Brimson, Jayden Campbell, Keano Kini
wg: Phillip Sami, Jojo Fifita, Lofi Khan-Pereira, Ken Maumalo
ct: Brian Kelly, Aaron Schoupp, Harley Smith Shields

Could be nice to bring one of Sami or Fifita in over Montoya, then maybe people would stop hyping up Metcalf's speed so much 👀

Tits got some good players
But they just didn’t know how to use them or where to play them

They seem to be an attack first style but with out systems or set plays

And like a few clubs lack depth

Get players in the right position with assignments and a bench rotation they should be a better squad

Hasler ?…… we will see

Fifita stays with Titans after Roosters pull offer

Queensland Origin representative David Fifita will remain with the Titans beyond 2024 after agreeing to take up his player option with the club for the 2025 and 2026 seasons.

Fifita had informed the Titans last week that he wouldn't be taking up the option to extend his stay on the Gold Coast – agreeing to a long-term deal to join the Roosters from the start of 2025.

According to a Roosters statement, however, "despite his management making the initial approach the Roosters and Fifita personally informing the chairman and head coach of his intent to join the club, Fifita has since expressed doubt."

That led to the Tricolours pulling their offer to the forward, "with the view that it is in the Roosters’ best interest."

"I’m extremely grateful for the time and interest shown in me over the past two weeks, but upon further reflection, I have made the decision that I want to remain a Titan beyond 2024," Fifita said in a Titans statement.

"I’m excited about the direction the team is taking and being close to home, and my family has been central to helping me make this decision."

Whilst its good for Titans to hold onto their marquee player, him going to the Roosters would have had ramifications for them with them most likely having to release Crichton, Wong or Whyte. Too much stocks in the pack and players would only be willing to wait so long and would look for other opportunities if their paths are blocked.

Does he have these same clauses for next year? It seems like since the Titans got these big names there has been speculation on them.

Wasn't one of the appealing things about the Roosters was his girlfriend being there as well?

Who's next? Tbh took much longer than I expected for the 'first coach fired this year' stake. There was clearly a style clash between Hasler and his players, a massive shame really - could have been much much much more competitive this year

Unfortunately Halsers old ways is not how you connect with Gen Z

The old school scream and shout give no respect to reporters might have worked for the baby boomers but this generation will just turn their back on you

If you want a successful coach look at Webby. Respected. Trusted and most definitely someone who can connect with players and people

Enjoy retirement Des

They had a clause in his contract if they couldn't make the finals. Even then they were probably checking hard with their lawyers as Hasler has been in legal action a few times after leaving clubs.

If Hannay is next in line he has picked up a tough gig. The Gold Coast has always struggled for any type of success. As we know, teams at the bottom often don't see plans through and move coaches on pretty quickly. That was how Hasler got the job in the first place.

Hannay better hope he has done enough due diligence. Sure, there are a limited number of head coaching jobs, but if your first one doesn't go well, you may struggle to pick up a second.

His last hope could be PNG.

Bingo.

You don't fix confidence issues by yelling at people.

The Warriors are a confidence team, always have been, it comes from the culture in New Zealand as well.

I could bore people and write pages about why Websters method of emotionally supporting his players is so effective, it comes from psychology/cognitive behavioral therapy concepts.

Confidence is linked to self esteem. Having a strong sense of self worth builds confidence, they are separate things but closely dynamically linked. Think of confidence as that thing that makes us believe we can kick that drop goal.

And self esteem, well we all know what that is. The pressure these kids are under to make it, obviously impacts on their self esteem, and as a club our collective esteem had taken a hammering before the arrival of Webster and his unique style of managing a large operation using inter personal skills like an expert does.

I promise this will be short, self esteem and anxiety are bed fellows, which is why the Webster method stresses building resilience, we see this in a functional way on the football field when a player is sent from the field, and the Warriors of old would collapse - whereas the Webster Warriors go on with business like nothing has happened.

This is because they A) have confidence they can perform the task and B) have a sense of self that is linked to this next man up Jingle they prattle out every week....

You hear the same Mantra from Webster over and over....resilience...in psychology this is a thing. And this more than anything is why the club is seeing record numbers of support from the public.
We are not the best Warriors side that ever played, Webster has reminded us that is not what matters most, what we all want is a team we can be proud of whatever the results. And we have that. Admittedly some can't see it, but that is their loss.

Right guy, right time, right project.

Webster will succeed whatever the outcome, whether that is winning a premiership or not, his time here will be a success. He will leave the Warriors a lot stronger, and a lot clearer about what they must do to one day win the whole thing.

Respectfully. Which decade did he win those?
He was also a great player. At some stage we all need to face the reality that generations change and we either adapt to the change or retire.

While I admire the attempt to shift the goalposts, success in Rugby League is determined by winning, not by likeability. Now while we can wax lyrical about modern methods, Des is a far, far, far more successful coach than Webby at this current point in time. I sincerely hope that changes and soon, but for now, it is what it is.

Who the hell would want this job? Good luck to Josh Hannay but I have to believe that he got tired of waiting for his opportunity and just jumped at the first vacancy. GC will be a basket case for years to come so I hope he got some assurance from the board that there will be patience shown with him. Otherwise I can see this ending in disaster.

If I were him, I would have waited for a better job to come up like his boss Fitzy did, even if that involved sticking around Cronulla for another year. Toddy hasn't got much time left and the cows roster would be far more attractive. They don't need much fixing to be back playing finals.
