NRL Dally M 2023

What I have learnt this week is people care waaay to much about an award ceremony run by the institution itself.

Nearly as bad as the Logies for irrelevant bullshit. The list of things that matter in league

1. Winning the GF
2. Minor Prem
3. Making the finals
4 -99. Thin air
100. The Dally M

The system is so flawed it’s not funny. Even AFB outscored Hass.
In his day & age people hold too much value in highlights & point scoring statistics (been guilty of this myself). I was debating someone earlier who thought Bradman Best put in a better performance than Ponga in Round 26 because he scored 2 tries (ignoring the fact he contributed to conceding one) & Ponga didn't play 80 minutes 🤦‍♂️

Just saw ponga on tv this morning. He said he emailed the nrl to say he wasnt going to go to the awards and then they rang him up to tell him... (why a wry smile) that "he was in contention...." well he already knew he was in contention, so they obviously told him he had won. Then they put sj through the whole charade that he was a done deal before pulling the rug out from under his feet in the last second while filming a close up of his reaction.
Farkin rude I reckon.
Yeah, what they did to SJ is crazy. The guy is human and has feelings. It was like "ha ha jokes on you, sucker". For many weeks the media have been pushing Payne Haas and SJ. Everyone saying SJ is the dally m. So it pretty surprising that it didnt even come down to SJ v Payne.

But the over the top build up, and pre award interview, then standing him next to Ponga, all just to cut him down at the last second. That is really discusting treatment of a genuinely nice guy!

It's simply a flawed system, I feel for Kalyn as he's undoubtedly subject to reading everyone's comments on who "should've" won which isn't fair.
To even suggest he's been the very best player of 2023 purely on the basis he only collected the maximum points on offer for single handedly carrying the Knights through their 11-game run due to the fact nobody else in the Knights team challenged him while SJ shared points with other great performers in our side shows a massive flaw in the voting system.
It's supposed to be the best of the best throughout the season, not the "well nobody else in his team were worthy at the time" awards.

I genuinely think Kalyn is a generational talent, but not worthy of this title in 2023.
and the fact that SJ was leading up to the last moment while sharing points with team mates (unlike ponga) shows how dominant he has been

100% we are going to get a tough draw.

What I want to know is will magic round be a home game again?

Surely they should rotate it each year otherwise the same teams get disadvantaged.
Given that from memory the 24 membership is for 11 home games I think you can ink in that Magic Round will be a home game

We signed an agreement for financial reasons & have been the "home" team every Magic weekend to date. I'm not sure of the length of contract though

It’s to do with ladder position as to what teams we draw twice. We can’t keep complaining about magic round being a home game- we keep taking the option to get the gate $
