NRL Dally M 2023

Watching the Warriors highlights wins on sky, hard to see how SJ wasn’t the winner of the dally m. Noticed Ponga looked at SJ when he said he felt “lucky” and Anasta say something to SJ right at the end as he walked off. Wide consensus I’ve seen says SJ was robbed, hopefully it just makes him hungrier for next season to go to even another level.

Apologies if it's already been stated but who got the points in our game vs Manly? My recollection was DWZ was best on park, CNK prevented a potential match winning Field Goal then forced an error and Saab got a hatrick

There's no rigging, no conspiracy - it's just a flawed Dally M system that probably gets more flawed the more they tinker with it.

We had 3 players in the team of the year, Broncos four, Panthers had multiple high scoring players.

Knights had Ponga. Us, Broncos, Panthers all would have multiple players with more points than the Knighta second player and that's what it came down to in the end.

I don't see it as rigged, but it is and always has been an absolute joke of a way to ascertain the best player in a season. It just needs to be taken for what it is, and doesn't diminish SJs season.
Just disappointed for him as there was obvious disappointment on his face. As mentioned, best halfback is nothing to be sneezed at in the company that position holds.

Fully agree. Ponga will forever be amongst the prestigous winners such as Jack Wighton & Matt Orford. SJ will remain with the peasants like Fittler, Meninga & Lockyer who were never awarded one

It's simply a flawed system, I feel for Kalyn as he's undoubtedly subject to reading everyone's comments on who "should've" won which isn't fair.
To even suggest he's been the very best player of 2023 purely on the basis he only collected the maximum points on offer for single handedly carrying the Knights through their 11-game run due to the fact nobody else in the Knights team challenged him while SJ shared points with other great performers in our side shows a massive flaw in the voting system.
It's supposed to be the best of the best throughout the season, not the "well nobody else in his team were worthy at the time" awards.

I genuinely think Kalyn is a generational talent, but not worthy of this title in 2023.

The Knights scored 50 points more than the Warriors and conceded about the same with an excellent defensive performance. The Warriors have had a soft draw and didn't beat any of the top 3 teams in the comp. The only point I'm trying to make here is that it is overly harsh on the Knights to say they are a one man team. They don't have the out and out superstars that would have stripped Ponga's points off him like Tohu, AFB and DWZ would have done for SJ, but let's not diminish them.

Meh, I thought Ponga did more to be the elite fullback than RTS when he got the gong largely on metreage. Swings and roundabouts.

It would have been awesome seeing Johnson win the Dally M. Still halfback of the year and overall we were pretty well represented. A few positional and the coach of the year.

A good indication of how we turned things around with the number of guys that won awards and also the ones in contention that missed out.

Ponga had a great run towards the end of the year. It's a good effort considering he missed a bit of time with his head injuries.

Johnson was unlucky but still an amazing turnaround from his form last year to being the best halfback in the game, nearly getting the Dally M and getting the Warriors to one game off a Grand Final.

Last time I’ll be watching that shit, up til 1am, sj loses in the final round, evening dragged out by 5 min speeches & just a poorly run evening. Stoked for our crew, halfback, prop, winger and coach of the year. What an outstanding achievement for our club. I’m fucking knakkered though & certainly won’t be doing that again!

Second this. I was so livid after the robbery I couldn't even sleep afterwards. Its an absolute joke and someone needs to flog the cunt Anasta.

Just saw ponga on tv this morning. He said he emailed the nrl to say he wasnt going to go to the awards and then they rang him up to tell him... (why a wry smile) that "he was in contention...." well he already knew he was in contention, so they obviously told him he had won. Then they put sj through the whole charade that he was a done deal before pulling the rug out from under his feet in the last second while filming a close up of his reaction.
Farkin rude I reckon.

Wouldn’t be surprised to get panthers, broncos, storm and roosters twice next year.
